Advise/Suggestions on Callie I need some advise/suggestions. The vet said it may take 14 days to see a difference in Callie and that's how many days that she will have had in antibiotics. Well Shes been on the antibiotics for a week and a day but doesn't seem better or worse really. She isn't swallowing as hard but occasionally still has a cough, sleepy/not much energy, and seems to have started shaking her head a little. The vet said just to bring her back if she got worse. My grandma thinks if there is no change for the better buy Monday she needs to go back to the vet and Tuesday will make that 2 weeks so is that what I should do? I am just worried about my Callie she just still seems not to feel good. Eating is normal, drinking is normal and pooing is normal. |
I think if eating, drinking and pooping is normal, just keep to the schedule your vet told you and go back for the follow up as scheduled. similar thing happened with Uni. I brought her in for severe itching from flea allergy. After the initial steriod shot and meds, she was still itchy for the follow up. I let the doc know I wasn't happy with how she was fairing and they tried something else, just like in people. Not the best imo but that's how it works. So go back on the scheduled follow up and let the Doc know your concerns. Hope Callie feels better soon. |
If the shaking of her head is a new issue, I would call the vet to let him know, and let him make the call whether to see her sooner or not. Hope she's feeling better soon. |
In my opinion, that seems like a long time before seeing improvement. It seems when my girls were sick and put on antibiotics we would see improvement within days. I think after 8 days with little improvement I would at least call the vet. Maybe she needs a different antibiotic or something? I know that I have had to have antibiotics changed before. I think a phone call would at least give you piece of mind. Hope she feels better soon. |
The head shaking seems to have almost stopped its like it lasted for a day and shes not doing it now. She is just not herself she will not play at all. So I think I will give the vet a call. |
Hope Callie feels better soon! glad you are calling and letting them know she isn't better. I would think she would be feeling better after a week. |
That head shaking sounds almost like a tremor. And if she's not acting right, would run her in for the vet to look over. |

Always go with your gut instinct. I've learned in the past that if the question of whether or not I should take a dog to the vet ever popped into my head, I always ended up taking them to the vet and being very glad I did. As a rule of thumb if your dog shows new symptoms (especially if they are already sick) you should always call your vet and try to bring the dog in. I hope Callie starts to feel better very soon. Just keep staying by her side. Knowing you're there will be her greatest comfort right now. |
