Sophie Kates Dentals -Question
 
All-

I need some advice, Sophie Kate had her dentals today(all went well, good results) but I am really kind of freaking out tonight - She cannot bark. When she barks it sounds like a cough. It reminds me of the dogs I have seen at the rescue where I volunteer, the ones who have been debarked.

I am so upset, I have Googled until my fingers are ready to fall off trying to find out if this is "normal" after dentals. Could this be short term from the intubation? I know to expect the coughing but to not be able to bark?

Please tell me this is normal, should I be freaking out like I am? Should I take her to the emergency Vet.

This is what I get for letting her Dad pick her up, not enough questions.

It's hard to say without being there what you should do, but I can tell you that when Max had anesthesia last time, he didn't sound like himself for a few days. I was paranoid about collapsed trachea, but he finally got his voice back.

Glad to hear all went well today. Wishing Sophie Kate well.

I agree it is hard to say, this might help some until you can call your veterinarian in the morning. Let us know what they say:aimeeyork

It is normal and will pass. It does not always happen, but sometimes they are just irritated from the tube...it's not a big deal.

Thank you ladies I feel much better.

I was kicking myself for allowing ths to happen to my baby. I will keep you all posted on her progress.

Indeed she is. Good oral care is essential in our pups! Periodontal disease is devasting to their little bodies.

Update, Sophie Kate appears to be feeling a little better today. We went outside this morning for a short walk and she did her "business", came back in and she drank some water and ate a little soft food. She is now sleeping on the chair with her favorite blanket. She is still a little horse and, but I am hoping that improves today.

I am just happy she ate, drank and went to the bathroom- I will take the little milestones.

Thank you ladies for all your support, as I have said in the past I could not have Sophie Kate and have her stay healthy and happy without all the help of the YTers.
