I think my baby is sick My 7.5 month old yorkie has had diarrhea for 2 days now. She has had firm ones in between, but it is the orangey colour one that she had today that is worrying me. Bella was fixed last week, so I thought maybe it was a reaction to the meds she was on, but she has been off them for 4 days now. The vet is closed right now, so I am going to call them in the morning. Does this seem like something serious? I've read some really bad things about orange diarrhea in dogs online. She is perfectly normal other than that. She is running around and playing just like she always does. Any advice? |
Some vets give anti inflammatory meds as pain medication. These can be very harmful to the gastrointestinal system if not given properly. I don't like the sound of her symptoms. Can she wait until tomorrow to see the vet? |
I don't know what the pain medication was. They didn't explain much, just said to put it on her food and make sure she ate with it, which I did. It was a couple days after we started the meds that she started getting the diarrhea. I'm going to try to find a 24hr animal hospital in my area. I'm really worried after everything I've read online. I'm just confused because she is acting like everything is fine. |
When you see the vet, ask about adding a probiotic to her food. |
If she is acting OK and eating and drinking then she may be OK until tomorrow. It's the color of her stool that is concerning. Her energy level is the same as usual? |
Yes, she is acting normal, maybe not quite as energetic as normal, but she just had surgery. We called the emergency vet, and they said that it wasn't something to bring her in for immediately. They said to keep an eye on her and bring her in if it continues. We are going to call her normal vet as soon as they open tomorrow morning and see what they say. Thanks for your comments. |
I hope your Bella gets better soon. I would take her to the vet for sure tomorrow. They dehydrate so quickly. Let me give you some advice that I learned the hard way, stay off google when searching symptoms. It will scare the crap out of you. The best advice you can get is from a vet. A phone call never hurts. Please update on Bella and let us know how she is doing. |
