Oh YAY!!!! So glad all went well:love: Layla will be home before you know it:D |
Glad everything is going good for her. Zada had both knees operated on the same time and Azrael just had knee surgery May 10th. It's so difficult leaving them like that. You will be back with her tomorrow. Give her hugs for me. |
Very happy to hear all went well. :) |

So glad to hear all went well! WooHoo Layla!:D |
I called the vet's office! Layla had a great night and is ready to come home! She peed and ate and is using her leg already. I get to pick her up at 12:30. I can't thank you all enough for your support- it has gotten me through this! I'll post an update when she is home. |
I am so glad to see the positive update on Layla!! Now for a speedy recovery:) |
So happy to hear that Layla is doing well and coming home! :) |
Layla is home :) I am SO happy! She seems to be ok. She is very tired and sore- she whimpers. She is on Tramadol twice a day and Metacam once a day as well as Clavaseptin twice a day. She is on complete no activity for the next 6 weeks. She can go out to pee and poop but that is it. We go back on the 23rd to remove the stitches and to start talking about physiotherapy. She was really hungry when she came home- she has had some food and some pumpkin treat to get the Tramadol down. Now she is in her buggy, napping. I feel a bit overwhelmed with being afraid of hurting her. Picking her up is hard because she whimpers. They said the Tradadol tends to make them sleepy so hopefully she will sleep for a while as a figure out what to do next! Her incision looks good. A bit red and swollen. They gave us an ice pack to do ice therapy. I'll probably do that once she wakes back up. I can't imagine her enjoying it! We'll see! I'm just SO happy to be home! |
She'll be ok. You can put the ice pack on for about ten minutes at a time about four times a day. Put a soft cloth under it so it isn't right next to her skin. It will help with the swelling. My lil girl whimpered for the first night or two, but she got over it and Layla will do well, too. Let us know how she does tomorrow.:) |
I'm so glad that Layla had a great surgery and now I wish her a great recovery! I hope you both rest tonight! |

I remember that Hot Rod ate right after surgery and then loss his appetite for a couple of days. The surgeon wasn't too alarmed about it but thought that maybe the pain meds were upsetting his tummy so he took him off of them as he said Hot Rod had them in his system and should be okay. I'll keep sending good thoughts and prayers for an uneventful and speedy recovery for Miss Layla. I know how relieved you must be to have her home with you. :) Hugs. |
Thanks all! well our first night is done! Thank goodness. Layla ate last night around 6- she has had a good appetite. She was pretty swollen so we iced a lot. She had her antibiotic and her pain meds around 11:30. She slept very well all night- had her soft collar on- but woke up this morning around 5 and threw up- not a lot but in her soft collar- I felt so bad for her. I am worried she might have inhaled a bit of it but I'll keep an eye on her. She ate this morning at 6 and had Metacam then as well. She has since pooped (yay!) And is now sleeping again. She was licking at her stitches but was quickly told to stop! Gotta keep an eye on her! |
Well this is not for the faint of heart. Layla is having a difficult day. She is whimpering a lot and isn't using the leg at all (yesterday she was- probably still had some of the good drugs in her). Her leg is very bruised and swollen. We are icing it and she is tolerating that well. She is sleeping a lot which is good. She has pooped again today but it was painful for her to stand like that. I feel so awful for her. Tonight we are going to feed her before she gets her second dose of meds in hopes that she won't throw up again. She is eating well which I am so thankful for. |
Be sure to give her the Tramadol as well as the Metacam. I have found that sometimes they do get a bit more painful after a day at home...I think it is because all of the anesthesia and pain meds from the vet are worn off. I give pain meds religiously for at least 5 days after ortho surgery... Usually they start to improve daily after that one difficult day. Hopefully tomorrow will be brighter for her! |

I am sure it is the Tramadol .. and actually rest is good for her. |
Yes, I agree the first few days are the worst. Kacee had a fentanyl patch on her leg. After I removed the patch, then I started giving her the tramadol. She did sleep a lot while taking it. You could see the difference in how much she slept while taking it and after we quit giving it to her. It's good that they sleep more while recuperating. Their little bodies need the rest so they can heal. |
