Need advice... Prissy woke up from her nap and started dry heaving constantly..she finally produced a little clear liquid and there was a piece of grass in it...I took her outside to potty and she went poop once normal and then went a little farther and had some loose stool..she ate a little and is playing fine now...she ate a little grass earlier this morning (we dont use pesticides or anything) Help?? |
I would keep a close eye on her, make sure her gums are moist and pink and that she is breathing normally. Any further signs of trouble, I would head to the ER vet. Did she have anything unusual to eat before the grass? Any chews or anything? I hope the episode is over and that she will be okay. Keep us posted. |
Mine have thrown up from eating grass before. But not the loose stool. I agree with Maximo, keep an eye on her and if you see any other problems go to the ER vet. Hope your furbaby is better soon. |
I mix science diet moist food with her kibble and she has been eating the ground chicken...today I gave her the chicken and vegetable flavor...We also have my inlaws in from out of town and my step daughter is here also, so there has been alot going on...I also wondered if it could be nerves... |
She could be nervous or maybe someone slipped her a tidbit that upset her or the food just picked this time to upset her. My dog grazes outside & eats things birds drop or cats carry into the yard and I have to watch him like a hawk since he recently had a bad G-I situation. Watch that baby and be sure she doesn't dehydrate from this. Dogs seem to eat grass when their tummy is upset & you then find it in their vomitus. Hope she is feeling better soon. If it keeps up, the vet may change her food for a while & put her on some nausea meds, etc. |
I made her some boiled chicken for dinner and she ate good, but when she came back in from going potty she vomited up everything she ate..I called the vet, I am meeting her at the office at 730.... |

Aw, poor baby! I hope it's nothing serious. It's good that you are taking her in right away. Sending good thoughts for you and your little girl:love: |
Just checking to see what the vet said. Hope you furbaby is ok. |
We got back a little bit ago..she was showing the beginnings of dehydration, but not enough to start fluids..the vet said she thinks she has a little upset tummy either from something she ate or all the new company that has arrived..she gave her a shot for the nausea and started her on an antibiotic and gave directions to give pedialyte..she wont drink it, so im having to use a syringe to get it down her...said to use the nutrical or karo syrup to keep her blood sugar up..I got home and tried both and she didnt want any part of it, but she will take pancake syrup..I put some nutrical in a syringe and gave it to her that way and will be repeating the nutrical and pedialyte through the night...she is playing well, so hopefully she will be better in the morning...on the plus side, she had gained from 1.5lbs to 2.2lbs since her well puppy checkup! Say a little prayer for her that she continues to do well..I feel just like a new mother with an infant!! |
I am so glad you got her in! They dehydrate so fast. I had to force fluids in Mikki last time she got sick. You should see some improvement by tomorrow. Hoping and sending prayers for a fast recovery! And they are like babies! :D. I am the same way when mine is sick. It's called being a good Yorkie momma! |
FYI...the vet also said she was glad that I had some knowledge on the Yorkie breed...I owe that to you guys!! Thanks so much!! |

Prissy is doing much better today..I have been able to give her moist science diet without the dry kibble mixed in it and I am still giving her the nutrical in between feedings...im giving her the pedialyte by syringe as well to make sure she is getting enough.. She is playing well and when she goes out she is coming right back in because it is so hot..She pooped this morning, but hasnt went since..im guessing she i just getting back regular...i have canned pumpkin I can give her if need be, but i didnt want to add anything else to her diet right now if I didnt have to.. |
Glad to hear she is feeling better! |
My girl had strange stools for a few days after we had some company here. The main company that stressed her out was a baby. She did not want to leave me alone with that baby! She liked it, and was interested and non-aggressive, but pretty much stuck near me. The next day a friend was over for a while with her 2.5 year old little girl who "plays" with Maggie. I think it really stressed her though she doesn't really show it excpet by staying fairly close by, and not going to chill in her window seat or by the front door. So, I do believe stress causes upset tummies sometimes. It does in us doesn't it? |
Yes it definantly does! I have made sure since then that I make sure she has "quiet" time during the day when everyone is here and if she gets too wound up that I get her calmer..she has done great since the Monday morning, but she is still eating grass...Whats up with that? When I take her out she is all about finding some to munch on and then Im chasing her trying to get it out of her mouth...She finds anything and everything!! |
