Princess has Colitis again! Princess now lives w/my aunt & I picked her up on Friday night. She's had colitis b4 & thought I can treat her @ home. This is maybe the 3rd x & this time around, it's bad. It looked like she was improving over the weekend, then this morning her #2 was all jelly, w/watery blood @ the end. Blood always appears @ the end of her #2, does anyone know what that means? Is it her large intestines? I am taking her in to the vet today, please say a prayer that all goes well! |
I'm praying that the vet can give Princess some medication to make her feel better. Sending good thoughts and prayers. |
Hope that all goes well at the vet. :) |
Princess will be much better once she sees the vet. One of my little girls had colitis, and at times when it was bad, she needed fluids and medical intervention, even though I always had medication for her. I hope Princess feels better very soon. |

Oh boy. I sure feel for you. We've fought this battle almost from the beginning, 2 years ago. Snickers also has MVD along with chronic colitis. Puts me in a panic all the time. He has sometimes got some really high fevers with this and vomiting. Have they tried her on Tylosin? Usually when it gets really bad, we get a week or so dose of Metronidozole and then we keep him on a daily low dose of Tylosin: 50mg twice per day. He seems to really need this. One specialist tried to cut him back of it and he started having symptoms again, which once again cleared after getting back on it. I think Tylosin is definitely a must to consider. It's safe to use long term. Snickers has been on this for about 1.5 years. Also, a high fiber diet seems necessary. His stool got a lot better on the prescription w/d, but I opted to take him off, because there is mostly fillers in it and we could really tell a drop in his energy level. I now feed the Honest Kitchen (Force) and use their supplement called Perfect Form. I add green beans and pumpkin. So far (knock on wood) we have not had any occurrences since February. I also give 1/16 tsp of the probiotic VSL#3. You might want to try this. It's highly recommended by a lot of people. So sorry you have to deal with the reoccurrent episodes. It's pretty scary when it keeps happening. I hope you can get some ideas that might help from what I've found that works. I've done A LOT of worrying and researching different things to try. Do you notice that these episodes are stress related? Snickers's have sometimes been. When I have been particularly stressed with something, a lot of times he has picked up on this and will get sick. |
aww, I'm sorry to hear about Princess. I hope the vet visit goes well. Do keep us updated. |
I am so sorry Jenny. Sending prayers for Princess. I pray all went well at the vet today and that she will recover quickly. |
Thank You everyone, we appreciate the special prayers, good thoughts & great advice/info! Sorry I couldn't update earlier, didn't sleep much over the weekend. Kept getting up whenever Princess ran to the bathroom & got about a total of 5 hrs of sleep. I was obsessed over checking her bowel movements lolll! So yesterday, I rested w/all the fur babies together. Then today, Mimi & Momo had their annual checkups which went very well. Princess does have colitis & is stress related. I was talking to my aunt over the phone & she told me that on Thursday, she fell on the stairs & she couldn't move for a couple of minutes because she was in so much pain. She's ok she didn't get hurt but she's gonna have bruises! Well, Princess ran over to her & my aunt screamed out in pain when she was trying to get up. Poor Princess ran & hid in her room. I think this is what triggered her colitis episode. My vet praised me for feeding her a bland diet of boiled wh rice, chicken & carrots or wh rice, tilapia fillet & green beans. He wants to come over to our house for dinner haha! She had little high fever of 103, so she got a shot of penicillin, vitamin B1 & subcutaneous fluids. Today, we started on her amoxicillin/ flagyl. She's eating very well & has a lot more energy. Next time something like this or anything else happens, I am NOT going to hesitate taking them to the vet. She had to suffer over the weekend, it was very bad judgement on my part. I thought she would get over it w/it in a day or 2 like the last 2 times. Plus, the vet bills won't be so high!:p |

Since the colitis is reoccurring & she has all the symptoms do you think it's whip worms? I ask bc whip worms are so hard to detect in fecal tests (& they infest the large intestines), it always comes out negative (her tests). Should I use panacure anyway? Does a dog infected w/whip worms have blood only @ the end of their poo? or is it all bloody, mixed in? (this I forgot to ask the vet) He also checked the end of the thermometer & said it was good that there was no blood on it. We've been to 2 different vet hospitals (from her previous episode) & the vets doesn't seem too concerned about whip worms & her stinky breath at all...am I being paranoid? lolll I want to know WHY she's got such stinky poo poo breath...she doesn't eat poo. My regular vet said it can be acid reflux but it's not that bad & she doesn't need meds for it unless it gets worse. Does having acid reflux give stinky breath? What does acid reflux breath smell like anyway? Maybe I should just put her on acid reflux meds to see if the stinky breath goes away? Or maybe I should stop googling? lolll Sorry for all the questions!:p |

Thank You for all the valuable info, there's a pharmacy down the street (my aunt's friend), I will drop by there & see if they have the VSL #3. I feed them Darford kibble which has 5% fiber & probiotics in it, but I think taking some myself would be good too.:D For dinner, they get THK. I do have perfect form from THK, I've been mixing that in her food. Princess has not vomited at all during any of her episodes...it's a poop issue all the way. My aunt also has been very stressed out the past couple of months. Her son is in the U.S. air force & they're sending him to afghanistan.:( So she's very distraught over this. I agree w/you, they pick up on our emotions...& Princess has a very keen sense of perception, sometimes I call her capuchin monkey. |
I'm back...have blabber fingers today! Quote:
