HELP! My morkie, Piper, in & out of vet - same symptoms I'm new to the forum. I brought Piper, a morkie, home a month ago and she was 2 months old at the time. From the 2nd day of being home she had been in and out of the vet with the last one being for a week. Initially she had similar symptoms to being hypoglycemic and that is what we brought her in for since feedings of food, nutrical, and maple syrup just wasn't making the cut. Piper was diagnosed very slightly for parvo, I say slightly because it was so early in the stages she wasn't positive on all elements except for a few. She had a hight white cell blood count along with not eating, diarrhea, and dizzy spells/tipping over when standing. When Piper was at the vet this last week for a totally of 6 days, they administered plasma fusions. She came home yesterday groggy but eating well every 4 hours while still eating nutrical. Lastnight was the downturn, my husband and I have an eating schedule for her while still leaving food out. We woke up at 4am for her feeding and she was back to not having an appetite, tipping over, wobbly, lethargic, and glazed eyes. I have fed her every 2 hours since - feeding her the canned food my vet sent me home with in addition to nutrical and rubbing maple syrup on her gums. 13 hours later and nothing has changed. I know this is a very long post and my first one at that however, this is my first time owning a 3 month old puppy and I have seen so many people with such good advice and opinions. Maybe there is something that I'm missing that I can try before I take her in tomorrow. Currently I feed 5cc's every 2 hrs and 1cc of nutrical with each feeding. My vet told me to feed her 10cc's every 4 hours. She is 3 months and 1.3lbs. Any help/suggestions and prayers are greatly appreciated! Worried mommy! :( |
Bump bumping this for you....I\'m really sorry to hear this is happening....poor little furgirl....I hope they can figure out what is going on with her and help her...did they do anything for the parvo? that is VERY contagious....and from what I hear can stay around for a while unless everything is cleaned with bleach...There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here that will give you very good advise...Praying your little one recovers quickly. |
Welcome. I am sorry to hear about Piper\'s health issues. I would have the vet check for a liver shunt or MVD. Small dogs can be prone to them. My Cali had many issues as a puppy with hypoglycemia and she has a real mild case of MVD. I hope you can get some answers and Piper feels better. |
Thank you for your advice and concerns. It saddens me to say she passed away shortly after. I only had my piper for 4 weeks but the joy and love she brought to my life is a blessing. She\'s greatly missed. |
Oh no! I\'m so sorry for the loss of your dear Piper, may she rest in peace... My heart is breaking for you and your family. Hugs, |
Oh no...I am so very sorry. I lost a young pup a few years past,I know how hard it is. Sending hugs. |
I am so very sorry for your loss. Each one of my babies stole my heart immediately, and I know how much you are hurting right now. I wish there was something that I could say that could console you. I know that the love that you feel for Piper never dies, and your little girl with remain in your heart always. |
Oh, Tara5910, I am so very sorry to read about Piper\'s tragic passing. You must feel kicked in the gut right now after a month of having a new puppy & all that joy juxtaposed with the grief & pain of now suddenly losing her. I imagine you are in shock & have a rough few days & weeks ahead. Go ahead & grieve for your little baby as you would for any family member\'s passing & know that so many here on YT totally understand & are pulling for you to get through this. It should make you feel better that you did all that you could & that sometimes things like this happen to very young small puppies. I know how you must miss her. But little Piper is out of her sickness now & at peace. R.I.P., baby Piper. You will be sadly missed, baby dear. |
You did you\'re best Just saw your posting.I am so sorry about your puppy, you really did all you could in helping her. I know what you are feeling. I hope your heart will find its desire to get another fur baby, you have lots of love to give to one. Hugs, Patti, and,Jack |
