Sore leg after neutering I had my 8-month-old Yorkie neutered yesterday and 2 baby teeth extracted. Now, when I pick him up, he acts like his hind leg hurts. He walks fine but he seems to be favoring it. We were told that he had a problem with his knee going in and out of the socket. Could something have happened during his surgery or could he possibly just be sore? |
Positioning is critical during surgery...under anesthesia, your muscles are totally, completely relaxed and you can do damage to joints, nerves, and tissue if you do not handle the person with a prescribed protocol they all use in oR...I am sure it is the same way with a dog....his leg could have been so relaxed, that knee popped out and maybe you need to have the vet take a look to be sure it popped back in...it could just be th way they had him laying,or they may have unintentionally leaned on that hind leg just a little, causing muscle soreness....so to answer your question, Yes, something could have happened during surgery! |
Thank you. He is contained today while I'm at work, so I'm going to see how he's doing when I get home. If no better, he's going back to the vet! |
Do they give needles or IV's? Injections in the leg could cause it to be sore. Did you ever have an IV? If so, you have an idea...and their legs are so little it wouldn't take much to make it sore. I'd ask about that. |
I was thinking that about the IV. Hope you can figure out why he's hurting. |
Update: Buddy is doing fine now. Apparently, he was just sore from his surgery! He's running and playing, just like before. Thanks to everyone who responded! |
Great news. Thanks for the update. Sometimes we wonder what happened to the little fur babies. |
