I'm so sorry your baby is going through this. You are scared & in pain from fright & worry but it is just the facts of life right now for him & you, if his little life is literally at stake & he has to suffer much more as you've described. I pray, if he doesn't respond to this treatment, you can find someone who can take him & takeover the finances & his care, getting a diagnosis & treatment plan from one or more vets - even the State veterinary college. I can only pray that the current treatment will begin to help this little one & he'll start to turn around & come out of this horror. Have they tried her on Pepto-Bismol or Kaopectate - things like that? Without more testing & a good diagnosis, though, I would probably be scared to try those without vet sanction. Those helped my Jilly when she was dying & not reacting to vet treatment of antibiotics, Compazine, etc., after all tests negative & they were discussing end of life issues with me. Two vets didn't know what was wrong with her. I decided she might be reacting badly to the antibiotics they'd had her on from the getgo. I had to stop those, keep her hydrated with vet-recommended Pedialyte doses & just feed her Science Diet Sensitive Stomach dry kibble(the wet caused bloody diarrhea) but then we'd tested all they knew to do. She came around & got well but continued to have similar episodes to a much lesser degree the rest of her life. I treat her the same each time when tests were negative. I will pray for your little one & you, though I don't know what organizations to go to if you have to surrender him to get further testing/care if he keeps dying, surely your vet & local SPCA/Humane Society/local rescues can tell you who might could help. Prayer & hope are coming your way from Tibbe & me. |

Good news |
Of course what I did for Jilly could have been purely coincidental & it was viral/bacterial all along that had run its course or something. That little thing was so so sick, vomiting & bloody diarrhea & loud sounds from her little G-I tract. She had to be on pain medication for a time. I can't help but think that alternating Kaopectate, Pepto with the Pedialyte & the heating pad helped when nothing else did but I will never know for sure. They can come through & out of some terrible things. |
It sounds like your little Binky is doing better. I hope he continues to recover. Sending prayers and hugs... |
I was convinced my Lucy was dying when she was a tiny puppy - it was awful. She was ill after feeding her a can of beef dog food from a well-meaning neighbor. I took her to the Vet and we determined she had mild liver issues; but she was still showing symptoms the entire week-end. Turns out - she ALSO had bad gas - which she reacted to by hiding, flopping over (seemed like seizures to me), and just acting crazy. I held her on my lap the whole week-end crying. I finally had my cousin come over and sit with her because I was afraid I was making her worse with my demeanor. I got out of the house for a day and knew she was in good hands. AND she was with someone who wasn't convinced she was on death's door. She came out of it and my son jokes to this day that Lucy had to be rushed to the Vet for gas. I was convinced, though, that she was dying due to her behavior; not eating; not drinking; hiding; lethargic, etc. OP, I hope that your little pup gets better and I see that you are willing to take whatever steps are necessary. That's good. It sounds like things are going in the right direction - especially if your vet seemed unconcerned. |
When the vomiting started 4 days ago, what had he had to eat? Had he had anything at all besides his regular food? Any tablescraps, a bite of human food? Had he been outside for a while that first day, before the vomiting started? Unless he developed some stomach/esophageal mechanical regurgitation type issues spontaneously or due to swallowing something big or irregular, it sounds like something really made that stomach lining raw or irritated, doesn't it - if it isn't pancreas/liver disease/tumor, etc? I don't know - can an ulcer make them vomit like this - does anyone know? Any temp at all? |

Binky had that gas problem with a lot of pain that's when I first found out about his sensitive tummy and the noises his belly made - oh my!! What helped him then was plain yogart and cottage cheese that took care of it. After the first serving his belly quieted righ down, |
Im sorry binkys not well but it sounds like you are doing a good job nursing him back to health |

Sounds like you are doing great! Just fight the temptation to FEED him more....just keep him going VERY slowly in 1-2 hour increments, with just a tblsp of baby food for the next 24 hours....let his gut rest....tomorrow, you can probably consider upping it to 2 tblsp every 1-2 hours...you are on top of the hydration and the Karo for his sugar level...the Pedialyte will help with his other electrolytes....like a turtle, slow and steady.....and going that slowly, if he starts to vomit again, you need to take him back to the vet....and you will have a pretty good idea that it isnt from over-feeding! |
Oh I feel for you and am so sorry that you and Binky are going through this:( So glad to read that he's now keeping some baby food down, that's good! Praying for continued improvement:hands: I hope your little one is all better very soon:love: Once this crisis is over, it might be a good idea to start saving just a little money, whatever you can spare, to an account just for your baby in case of an emergency. It's so horrible to know they need help and not to have the funds for it. At least you do have insurance and hopefully they'll reimburse you quickly so that you're not late on other things. I had an ER vet secretary do some magic once when my check wouldn't clear (they run it through electronically) and she forced it so that they could save Luna. We had money in the bank, but the bank had put a hold on our deposits like they always do:rolleyes: Could have meant my baby's death! Anyway, I hope to read another update soon that Binky is bouncing back. I think we ALL know what he means to you:love: |
Wow, I just reread my first post & that first sentence doesn't make sense! It doesn't because I was restating a sentence & didn't get all the words rearranged. Sorry for the confusing syntax. Just checking in to see if the baby kept the food down to this point. If not, cut back on the next amount to way smaller. I literally had to break Jilly's Sensitive Stomach Kibble up with a hammer for easier digestion & just let her lick about a 1/2 teaspoon of the grains per couple or so of hours. Her tummy just could not digest more than that at one time, things were so out of kilter. If she got too much, vomiting; if not, no vomiting. With that Pedialyte & knowing she was getting some food, however small amount, I knew she wouldn't starve to death as her tummy parts healed. I'll check back later. Still pulling for Binky! |

Binky and I both crashed on the couch and we just woke up. While we were sleeping my sugar crashed too so I went to the restroom to get a shot. While I was in there Binky came in with his toy and wanted to play - lol everyone he wanted to play. I played with him very gently for just a little and he played back - this is good yes? He's walking around - slow but being noisy and checking out the cat outside. Yorkiemom1 I'll keep it slow, but I'll have to get back to you in a few, now I's sick - sugars low got to ear -thanks everyine |
I'm soo happy Binky is doing better , praying it stays that way. |
I'm so glad your baby is showing some signs of improvement. Keep up the good work. |

I hope he will be o.k. |
Praying Binky continues to improve. I hope you are ok to. I am a little worried as your sugar went low and you are alone. The lady I got Nikki from got him from a rescue and then she lost her pension (one of those enron type places) and had a mild stroke and couldn't drive to her part time job so she couldn't afford to vet Nikki or eat much herself. I was able to help her get Nikki situated health wise until she had a severe stroke and I took Nikki. So sometimes one finds themselves in a terrible financial bind and I wish there were more funds available to seniors could afford to have a pet. It makes ones life so much better. I hope everything improves for you. |
