Help with tooth lose! Please! Hi-My 1 year old(as of May 22)puppy Vegas just "broke off" a tooth tonight, and I'm not sure if it's a baby tooth or adult one! See the vet commented on his first visit, after I received him, that it was unusual for him to still have all his baby teeth at that age(6&half months),but that he was probably just a late bloomer,sooooo....???The whole tooth didn't come out and there's a "stub" and I don't know what to do!He just keeps licking and his gum was a little bloody but not bleeding. Can someone help to know HOW can I TELL if this was a baby tooth or an adult tooth?!Thanks! |
Don't panic. It IS common for yorkies to retain baby teeth & are often removed at the time of spay/neuter. I am actually shocked that your vet does not know this & makes me want to say find a new vet. K.... the baby teeth are sharp as needles & if you look just in front of or behind the broken tooth there may be another tooth there, if there is then it's probably his baby tooth that's broken. I would just get him to the vet next week & have it checked out & IF he's not been neutered yet , you can schedule his neuter & dental at the same time. Welcome to YT ! |
Yes,he's already been "fixed",and right now he won't let me look, but maybe by morning I can see if there's another tooth behind it.What if there's not?Does that mean he's lost or broken off the adult tooth?!That's what I'm wondering...Thank s for answering me though-I guess I just want to know if there isn't another tooth there to definitely let me KNOW that it was a baby tooth broken, then is there a chance it could've still been a baby tooyh or how do I tell if he lost an adult tooth? |
Did you happen to find the tooth that fell out? I kept many of Uni's baby teeth and most of them were hollow. |
when my oscar had two retained canine ( the 2 pointy ones in the front) teeth. i took him to my vet and they gave him a sedative to pull them out. take him in to your vet and have them take a look , if it is just a whole baby tooth maybe they can take it out for you. unfortunately if it is a broken tooth they will need to put him under anesthesia to take it out... |

No,there's a stub of a tooth left, but I don't know since he had baby teeth still so late,if it's a baby tooth or an adult tooth. The "matching tooth on the other side is a large tooth though.I can't imagine what happened! He was only chewing in a cloth toy and just started licking funny and next thing I knew I saw a tooth fall on the floor!I saved the tooth, but I know it can't be put back on.I;m just so upset to think that if it was a permanent one,he's ONLY a year old,and will be without it!!!I'm just sad for him... |
Is it the bud of another tooth growing in behind? I think I'd take him to the vet to remove in case it is painful or could interfere with the nearest adult tooth - whatever is going on there. |
I don't think so..I think it's the part of the tooth lft that broke off...that's another mystery. Why did it break there and not at the gum line...hmmm?I guess I'll just hve to take him to the vet regardless and see what's going on.I dread it Thanks everyone |
Don't stress so much. It is probally a baby tooth. But your vet should know when you take him. I know it worries you when this happen's but he should be ok till you get him to your vet's. Have a great weekend.:p |
