How wonderful, everything went so well. Heal up Seymour. |
Day 3 post surgery.. Seymour is still doing well.... he doesn't seem to have much pain and the vet specialist was very good about making a prescription "cocktail" for him that I can monitor and adjust according to his pain level..... She & I both agree that we don't want Seymour to be over-medicated but comfortable. I CAN DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SPECIALIST to others in the Kentucky area if you need a good vet specialist.... just PM me for the info. He is starting to feel better about putting a little weight on his leg when he stands.... at first he was afraid to, understandably so. I think it will be nice enough to take him out on his leash this morning for awhile (5 minutes at a time... 3-4 times a day). Hope you all have a good weekend.... mine will be spent spoiling my "patient" and the other 2 furbutts. |
I am just seeing this thread, I am so glad to hear Seymour he is doing well. It's so sad to hear about your BIL but like you say he is now out of pain and at peace. My condolences to you all. |

No, from what I understand he does not have any plates or screws. The specialist we used said she normally does not use them with the smallest breeds. Seymour had several procedures: A block recession trochleoplasty, a lateral joint capsule imbrication, and a medial release. He had a lateral fabellar suture also (to assist with the ACL injury result). Sorry about all the big words, but it might be easier for you to look it up rather than a long explaination. I guess we will start physical therapy in 2 weeks..... will Kacee be having any outside physical therapy or are you able to do it at home? |

Kacee is not requiring physical therapy. She has full use. I've seen her stretch a few times this week and she has impressed me with how well she is doing. I don't start her on five-minute walks until Thursday and we'll do that for two weeks and then on weeks 5 & 6, 10 minute walks, weeks 7 & 8, 15 minute walks. I think my main concern will be keeping my rambunctious puppy under control!:) We go back July 18th for the last? checkup and they will do x-rays at that time. |
So glad to hear Seymour is doing well. That pampering stuff really works well:D Keep up the good work you guys:) Seymour, Cali says you have got to be ready for the Lexington show:thumbup: |

Just a quick update on Seymour.... it has been a week since we took seymour home from his surgery... and he is doing wonderful. We are still limiting his activities but he is starting to get a little more difficult... he wants more freedom! :) His incision looks wonderful and when he does walk (4 times a day for 5 minutes) he has been putting weight on it.... still limping a little but the little dude is doing great!!! I am sure as he heals it will be easier and once the physical therapy starts it will help him with his range of movement and make it even easier. Thanks for all the well wishes for Seymour!!! :aimeeyork |
Thats wonderful news! I'm so glad he's doing so well.:) |
Great news! He is such a trouper! |
Sounds like Seymour is doing great! Thanks for the update and wishing you the best as he continues to feel better and wants to go, go, go. Awww. |
Awww, so glad to read how well Seymour is doing:love: Wishing him full recovery very soon:) |
Just thinking about Seymour today and wondering how he is doing now. Did he do physical therapy? |

Seymour started his physical therapy this past Thursday. His therapist made measurements of his knee and also of his degree of motion. The knee that he had surgery on has about 10% less motion range than the other one. That will change as we slowly make progress and he is able to more strengthing exercises. Of course, it has only been a little over 4 weeks and we don't want to over do. (Shelby still had casts on at 4 weeks). He also enjoyed a laser treatment. He really seemed to like it...... Actually he laid down! :) He is going to be taking a 1/4 tab of "Zeel" which is a homeopathic supplement for joints everyday (once a day) between meals. He has another appointment next week for further therapy! He is on his way to a slow but steady recovery! |
I'm glad to hear that Seymour is on the road to recovery! |
So glad Seymour is doing well. Bet he is even enjoying camping! ;) |

The AC is definitely a MUST! Our three little monkeys haven't had too much outdoor time lately.. it has been very close to 100 degrees for many days now..... they go outside for a little pool time and also "dunking for ice cubes" (Seeger's favorite) but after 10 - 15 minutes I bring them back in. I can't imagine any animal being outside in this heat. |
They are so cute, tell them I'd love to join them dunking for ice cubes if I lived close.:D 95 here but they say 80's for next week:thumbup:, It will feel like Alaska we have been 100 for so long. Have fun! |
Just checking in to find out about Seymour's progress... |
More about Seymour's recovery! Seymour had a PT session while we were camping 10 days ago. His therapist came to the campground and they both enjoyed the atmosphere while working! He received laser therapy on both back legs and also on his left front shoulder.... with the surgery being on his left leg, sometimes he will put more weight on his front to compensate so this is done for a little extra "feel good" treatment. :aimeeyork He laid in the lounge chair while his therapist sat in a blanket and did the treatment.... he really enjoyed it so much!!! :dogzzz: His leg is starting to strengthen very well..... no limping or compensating for it. :animal37 We also are doing a series of "sit/stands" watching to see if he uses his legs and not surging forward when going from sit to stand.....he is doing it without putting weight to his front shoulder.... YAY!!! that means the muscles are getting the workout that they need! We do 5 sit/stands a day, 2 times a day. He is still taking 1/4 tab of Zeel a day. (and we give it to Shelby, also). They think it is a treat, so Seeger has to have one of his itty bitty treats when it is time for Zeel. :D We are scheduled for another PT session this coming Tuesday.... which I really think it making a huge difference in his recovery. Thanks for all the encouragment and good wishes for Seymour!!! It is so much appreciated!!! :ghug: |
