Yesterday evening Mikki started acting very tired and was shaking. I gave her some Nutrical and thought she was better. Well, this morning she was not better so I called my vet. Thankfully he was willing to meet us even though his office was closed. Mikki has an infection and needed antibiotics. She was shaking because she had fever. But this is where I am going with this.

PLEASE PLEASE take your babies to the vet if they are not acting right!!! In less than 24 hours she was so sick and partially dehydrated! If she doesnt get fluids in her she has to do an IV. These pups are so little and can go down fast! So please take them in!

Please say a prayer for my Mikki. :( We are hoping she bounces back soon.

OMG poor Mikki :(. That sounds awful, I'm so glad you got her in as fast as you did.

I'll keep Mikki in my thoughts

Oh, I know what you mean about early vetting. The first sign Tibbe is not himself, we are at the vet. It's just far easier on all that way.

Poor little Mikki - I pray that your early intervention will catch that infection before it had time to get too much of a blood level & the antibiotics are working as we speak. Did the vet know what the source of the infection was? A UTI, bad tooth, ear? Please keep us updated on that sweet "little sister" & I will be praying she is much better by tomorow. Try not to worry - you took her in ASAP.

Yep they go down fast. One time Daisy had vomited and had diarrhea and with her that's always a bad thing and within a few hours she was dehydrated and admitted for IV fluids and other medical attention. It isn't worth it to wait, they get sicker and the bill gets higher.

Prayers for Mikki, I'm glad you got her in fast. Hugs!

I am right there with you Rhonda!! If they are not acting right it is always better to go on in. Waiting is not an option!!! I am praying the shot and antibiotics kick in and get that infection cleared up. I know you are pushing those fluids so I hope that works so she doesn't have to go in for an IV.

There are soo many "other things" that can be wrong, and with these Yorkies and their propensity for low blood sugar, we often automatically assume that lethargy and shaking/shivering/tremors, unsteady gait, etc is from hypoglycemia...we give the NutriCal and if the symptoms disappear, we have solved the problem....many times, it is something else going on, that has perhaps lowered the blood sugar....rather than being the problem, the low blood sugar was a symptom secondary to something else. AND OF COURSE, IT ALWAYS HAPPENS ON A HOLIDAY OR WEEKEND OR MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!! When I did have a baby running around here that had issues with low blood sugar, anytime he had symptoms, I always gave the NutriCal first and then went straight to the vet, just to be sure there was nothing else going on! I am so happy for little Mikki that you were able to get her to her vet today! Keep us posted on her respnse to treatment!

It's so true that things like this happen in the middle of the night. As much as I hate trekking to the ER vet at 3 AM, I am always grateful it happens when I am home and there to respond. The last time we went, Teddy's throat was closing from an allergic reaction and he needed a shot of benadryl and dexamethasone at the ER vet. Thank god I was there for him!

I hope Mikki makes a speedy recovery. A great reminder that it is better to be safe than sorry.

I think we will know more from the blood work. I didn't stay to get the results and he told us to come in tomorrow if she wasn't better. I am sure he will call me tomorrow and let me know. I was so glad he agreed to meet me since he was closed. I do appreciate ER vets but prefer my vet of course. So I think I will know more tomorrow.

I am hoping that this thread will help others see that. So many post on here and want to wait to take their pups in. In less than 24 hours a lot can happen. I hope that they will see that!! :(:(

I really did think it was sugar. I gave her Nurtical and she acted better. But it didn't take long before she started shaking and being sluggish again. I realized then it was more than sugar. I knew she had to be seen.

My kids and my pups all wait until the holiday, weekend, or middle of night. Ha ha. Never fails!! With Alex's knee problem it happened on a Saturday! So kids and dogs both are doing this to me! :p:p

Thank you!!! She has stopped shaking which is a good sign. She gets her next antibiotic at noon. She actually ate some boiled chicken and is doing great with me giving her fluids. Hopefully she will be back to herself very soon!!
