Cries when picked up and shivers My 4 year old Yorkie has me worried. The past 48 hours he has been constantly lying down...not at all his usual playful self. On top of that when I pick him up to lay him on his back on my lap to rub his tummy he cries like he is in pain. Then he will shake for awhile after crying like he is scared. He walks, runs up and down stairs, eats and goes potty just fine. I have felt all over his body for any specific points of pain and nothing. It only seems to hurt when i pick him up and turn him on his back, stretching out his tummy. Any ideas?? A pulled muscle maybe? |
I'd say time to take your furbaby to the Vet. Could be something serious then maybe not. Either way you will get piece fo mind hopefully after talking to the Vet |
I would go to the Vet , shaking is usually a sign of pain perhaps something internal going on. |

Took my baby to the vet today. They think he strained something in his neck so anti anflammatories and limited activity for a week :/ Xrays next step if no improvement |
I'm so sorry to hear that your baby isn't feeling well. I hope that the anti-inflammatory medications help and that he's feeling better really soon. Hopefully this was just a muscle strain and nothing serious. |
I don't want to frighten you, but honestly, I would have an xray done before next week. There is a condition called Atlanto Axial Subluxation that can show up in yorkies...we have seen a few on YT this past year. They suddenly develop neck pain with that condition. Here is a link with information: ACVS - Atlantoaxial Instability While it very well might not be that, it is something I would want ruled out immediately if I had a pup with sudden neck discomfort. |

I think I would be cautiously fearful that this could be a possibility, have the dog tested/xrayed and the condition ruled out, then CELEBRATE that is turned out to be a simple sprain! |

My Zhoie was almost 3 when she started screaming with pain. I knew it was in her neck, ER vet did exam...didn't think it was her neck. I asked for a neuro referral. Neuro did a very rough exam and still didn't feel it was AAI. At that point, I insisted on a MRI, sure enough she had AAI. Please, please at least demand an xray to rule out the possibilty. |

You are so right Jeanie we learned the hard way with several visits to the Vet and hundreds of dollars later and no xray. To the OP again if there is no improvement demand an xray at the next visit or set up an appointment with a specialist. It will save you worry and expense in the long run. Please keep up posted.
