my baby yorkie was very sick for 3 weeks and is now losing hair This poor little thing was sick from the first day, he was throwing up and had watery stool. We took him to the vet ASAP and he continued to get worse, his blood sugar dropped several but we brought him back . The vet gave us Flagel and we fed him every 2 hours for 7 days, also had to give him nutrical and Karo. He is now a ball of fire and wanting to play every second. He has been losing his hair so we took him back to the Vet and had a skin scrap done. Nothing was found, I have noticed that he has a yellow scale and bumps all over his back side. Anyone seen this before? |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Can't say I've seen that, but something similar.... could be a secondary infection going on so a vet check would be best.... |
YHR has a puppy that had similar issues. His blood sugar is now stable, but he did lose quite a bit of hair. He had a bacterial infection and then a yeast infection. I think it might be common for this to happen since the body is so stressed out during hypoglycemic attacks. If it does not improve, I would suggest perhaps a dermatologist. Maybe ask your vet about that? Good luck and welcome to YT! :) |

I would not give Karo & NutriCal as this is too much sugar. I would stick with the NutriCal for such a young pup as it also has vitamins in it & the Karo does not, but will work for an emergency situation. |
Sounds like yeast to me. I agree about cutting out the Karo, if you haven't done that already, as sugar will feed a yeast infection. Definitely ask the vet to check him again. It's very cureable with anti-fungals. Does he feel greasy and/or smell funny? |
we cut the nutrical and Karo 2 weeks ago, he has a apointment with the vet again today. having the Vet look for yeast infection. He is still losing hair. |
Aw, poor baby:( Good luck at the vet's today, hopefully they'll nail it down and get him started on the road to full recovery. |
As he hasn't been eating well, hair needs protein to grow, and skin issues can cause damage to hair folicles, which could also make the hair fall out. I think once he's eating well and his skin is all healed, his hair will grow back in in no time. JMHO. |
good luck at the vet. Please keep us posted |
