Max's Feces? Recently, I have been noticing that my 8 week old Yorkie, Max, has been having wet, slippery feces. My daughter told me once that it looked much like diarrhea. I don't know why the stools are like this. I'm starting to feel very worried because I saw my daughter feeding Max chips a few days ago. However, I stopped her before she gave too much to him. What can I do? Thank you in advance! :) |
Is he eating and drinking? How many days has this been going on for? I would get him to the vet. Actually, I just noticed we live in the same city - what vet do you use? |
Well I dont know how common it is but when mine were young pups there poop wasnt solid like it is now it was more wet but not watery wet |

Was there anything you did/fed to your puppies to get their poop more solid? Or did you just let time solidify it? |
maybe the cause is the change in diet (i mean the chips he was given) I remember when ziggy was younger, he could not tolerate any junk food an would have soft stool. but it would pass in about 24-48hrs. i use to use this "tummy soother" i got from my vet, but one time I used canned pumpkin and it worked the same. You ould go have him checked out if you're feeling nervous (i know i was at the vet- who is only a 10min walk from my house- or calling my vet every week when he was that young!lol) |

He's awfully young and should see a vet ASAP. They can go downhill rather quickly at that age and size. In the meantime, a tiny bit of PLAIN canned pumpkin might help firm the stool, though if he has a problem such as worms, or giardia or coccidia that won't solve it. Please get him in to the vet sooner rather than later. Welcome to YT, by the way:) |

Thank you very much! |
He may have eaten a little something off the floor, they are such vacuums at that age! Glad the vet thinks he's okay. If it continues for more than another day though, yeah, a second opinion is a good idea, especially if the pumpkin doesn't help. |

I tried the pumpkin yesterday and it seems like it is working! His poop is becoming more solid, so he must be getting better! |

When you can't really keep a close eye on your little one, you might want to invest in an x-pen to keep them safe. I would have lost my mind without ours:laugh: They are so darned quick and smart, they can get stuff before you know it! Hopefully all it was was a little upset tummy from a goodie he snagged. If he starts up again, definitely take him back to the vet. Thanks for the update:D!!!! |

Haha, I might as well buy one! Max tends to find his ways under furniture to the carpet, where he likes to pee and poop everywhere! How much are for the x-pens? I think it would be very useful if I got one. I'll make sure that he doesn't try and eat things he shouldn't from now on! Thank you for replying! |
Awww, you're so welcome:) This place has been so valuable to me so I try and help others when I can. I hope Max is doing well today:love: I think I paid $70 for my ex-pen, got it at PetSmart. Shop around online, sometimes you can find one on sale, or even a used one on Craigslist. Another alternative would be to get a baby gate (get a plastic one, the wood ones mine liked to chew:rolleyes: ) and restrict him to the kitchen or a bathroom at unsupervised times. If you put him in the bathroom, PLEASE make sure the toilet lid is down, as they can fall in and drown, it happened to a member here a while ago:cry: I'd also remove or put up high any wastebasket and definitely put the toilet paper up where he can't get it, they ADORE shredding TP:laugh: It takes a lot of patience and vigilance to raise these little ones safely. They are terriers, after all, so they have a lot of spunk and stubbornness:p YT is such a wonderful place to find out things as they come up:) Glad you found us!!!!:D |
