Looking for an LP thread from a few years ago Hello YT Family. It is looking like Layla might need LP surgery. We see a specialist on the 11th. I remember a few years ago someone posting a very detailed, day-by-day thread on the recovery of their pup's LP surgery. I have been searching high and low for it. Anyone know where I might find it? THanks |
I'm sorry, I don't. But wanted to say...sending prayers for sweet Layla. |
Oh poor Layla. Hoping she will recover quickly. I think Patti or Bo had LP surgery on one of their pups? You may want to PM them. I think it's one of them. |

I remember this thread you're talking about too, Marcie. Dang, who was that? It wasn't StedmansMommy was it, w/ Tatum? I don't think it was...but I remember her thread too. Did you find the specific thread yet? I'll keep trying to remember who that was too. |

Gilmore had his second LP surgery and is now today is at the end of his 3 months of crate rest. You can search for my posts about his surgeries. I was overwhelmed the first time at the beginning but you learn to adjust and so do they. This time I knew instantly what was wrong the minute he started holding his leg up and I had his surgery pretty much immediately rather than putting off the inevitable. I am so glad I didn't wait and he is doing amazing. He was pretty much doing amazing from the minute we brought him home. It is difficult to confine for such a long time but this time was soooo much easier. Right now I am actually more afraid to let him run free than I was to deal with the restriction for the recovery period. Please feel free to pm me with any questions at all. Praying she does well. Hugs !!!! |
Hi Marci, so glad to see you back here. Hope you don't leave us again. ;) If you remember, Zada had surgery on both knees at the same time. Long recovery, then that Vet. retired and moved to another state and she started limping again so I took her to the orthopedic Dr. and he found that the Vet. did not deepen the groove, so she had another operation on one knee. I hope all goes well for my little niece. Let me know if you have any questions. |
Sending best wishes to Layla, praying the specialist will have good news for you. |
Somi recently had LP surgery and I think we ended up with the easy end of it. She was pretty sleepy the first day, but she was still attempting to move around though I didn't let her move more than a few steps to find a more comfortable spot. She really didn't want to eat or drink, but I didn't want to give her the meds without eating. But I found the thing she would eat pretty much no matter what. Scrambled Eggs!! I hid some kibble in them so she would get a little more nutrients, but she ate scrambled eggs for almost all her meals for like 3 days. After only a few days, she was really hard to keep from trying to run around. She felt better and she was trying to convince me she was better. :) One day I took her with me in her bag to do errands and things and when I got home I looked at her leg and her stictches were gone! I know she hadn't been chewing at them while we were out because she keeps her head poked out. So I still don't know when she got them out or how it happend. But luckily it was only a day or two before we were supposed to go to get them out and I took a picture of it and sent it to the doctor. They said it looked a little irritated, but it was okay. And when we went back to get them out [she also was spayed so she had to have the tummy stiches removed too] they said she was all good. :) On Monday we have our 4 week after stitches out [so 5 week] appointment in which she is supposed to be back at full activity. Which it has been really hard to keep her from jumping and doing things. If her leg wasn't shaved, you wouldn't know she just had surgery. I'm really hoping she hasn't hurt it by running around when I wasn't looking, but we will find out on Monday. But if you are lucky maybe your furbaby can heal as quickly as my Somi. I hate that any of them have to go through this, they need to stop having such wiggly knees. :( |
I am always so amazed at the differences in each dogs recovery restriction times. The hospital where Gilmore had both his LP surgeries were very insistent on 3 solid months of crate time. |
I was sorry to read your little one may need LP surgery. Let us know how the appointment goes with the specialist. |
