A hard bump! Got a few question I am hoping you can help me with. Diesel is only 4.5 months old and so far seems to be healthy. I have noticed that he seems to have what they call a roch-back. At times I can see it and then at times you can't. Anyway my first question is will this hurt him or is this just something that is frowned upon when showing? I saw his mother and she didn't have it. The father I only saw in pictures. From what I saw he didn't have it either. My second question is this. I notices this afternoon that he had a small bump on his back. It is bwtween his spine and his shoulder blade. It is about the size of half a pea maybe a little smaller. it is the same color as his skin and there isn't any puss coming out and it doesn't seem to bother him to touch it. (i was fooling with it and got it red) I don't know what it could be. He is eating just fine playing just fine and pooping and peeing just fine. So any ideas??! :( Emms |
I got to reading about a Yorkie being roach backed. I am not sure that his is very severe. Sometimes I see it and then at other times I don't. Does anyone have a link to a site that explains a bit more? Or maybe even some pictures that I can see. Thanks a bunch Emms |
You'll be able to determine the severity of it as he gets older. When picking out a yorkie, run your hand across it's back. If there is anything but a straight line, I'd look elsewhere. Roached backs are hereditary. It's in the genes, so two perfect parents can have puppies that have them. It's a fault according to the standard and is frowned upon. Roached backs have a tendency, but not always the case, of longer legs, shorter necks and low tail sets. It isn't painful at all...just not attractive to the eye. It doesn't take away from a pet, though. |
as far as the lump...has he had shots recently? sometimes, a lump can result because of a shot but will go away soon...sometimes it can take up to a month. |
Could the bump be a microchip? |
I had thought about that. His shot was given in the exact place as this bump but it was on the other side . I will keep and eye on it and see how it does. maybe some neosporin on it won't hurt. Thanks for the help. Emms |
Nope I do know it isn't a microchip. So i guess I will wait and see. My poor baby. He is only 4.5 months and I swear I love him to pieces! Emms |
my yorkie has a bump too i just found out she had a bump below her neck area too ( towards her back), I took her to 3 vets and they still could not figure out what it is, they tried to stick a needle in it but nothing came out and she didn't seem to care when we touch it or whatever...just that she doesn't have hair on that spot...the doctor gave us some antibiotics but it didn't help at all...im taking her to another vet next week again. hopefully we'll find out what it is.... |
One of mine had a small lump (about half a pea) on her back. One day, when I was washing her, it came off when I rubbed it by accident. It never came back!!!??? Now, my other girl has one under her front leg. But I'm not worried about it, because we all get little pimples and other unexplained things. As long as it doesn't change in size or color, or seem to bother them, I would not worry about it. JMO |
Thanks a bunch guys !. I feel better now. Emms |

Not sure if this was a good idea or not BUT. I ended up putting a dab of campho-phenique on it. I did this for a few days and now it seems to be going away. I thought maybe it might help dry it up. It wasn't oozing or anything so I new it wouldn't hurt him. It seems to be going away so that is a good sign. Thanks for all the info. I still plan on keeping an eye on it tho. Emms |
possible sebaceous cyst? I just discovered a small lump on my 4 month old yorkies back - right between her shoulder blade and spine. It is under her skin, its not oozing, and she doens't have a microchip. It moves a tiny bit when I rub my finger over it and it doesn't seem to bother Katie when I touch it. I was immediately upset because I love my little baby so much but am now hoping it could be just a cyst that will go away after reading this thread. She had her last vaccinations a week ago so I suppose it could possibly be from that? or maybe a sebaceous cyst? I just took her to the vet yesterday (before I found the lump) because she has been having diarrhea on and off for the last 6 days and the vet told me to feed her rice and hamburger instead of her regular food (puppy eukanuba) and i'm giving her an antibiotic for coccidia. any thoughts on all this would really be appreciated - thanks!! |
I am wondering if it is from the vaccination. Diesel's bump went away. I ended up putting just a tad bit if campho-phenique on it for a few days. It finally dried up and went away. I would just watch it for awhile. I know how you feel because I was scared to death that it was something really bad. I hope you baby gets better soon. |
