My sick little Coco Bean My sweet 3 year old Yorkie, Coco, started vomiting up her water and food last Thursday. On Saturday, I decided to take her in to see the vet. They put fluids in her back, gave her nausea meds, and some antiacid meds. An xray was done and they thought their might be some blockage but they were not sure. I was told to feed her rice and chicken. I gave her the rice and chicken that afternoon...it came back up a couple of hours later. By Sunday morning, she was throwing up bile. I took her to the ER at that point. They ran blood tests, started an IV, she was given nausea medicine, and more xrays were done. Blood tests were run on her pancreas, white count, etc. All came back good. Yesterday morning she was still throwing up. I could either run more tests or do exploratory surgery. I chose to do they surgery because she always eating things, we would know for sure if there was an obstruction, and we could get a biopsy. For cost reasons, I chose to have her surgery at the Vet Clinic. Everything went fine but they did not find any obstruction. They said her intestines were angry...red, bruised. They took a biopsy of her stomach and intestines. I took her back to the ER for after surgery care. She is still throwing up. They have not been able to get her off the IV and give her meds by mouth. I can keep her there for another day and a half. It is so very expensive to have her there. I am thinking of sending her to the vet during the day and with me at night. Has anyone had their dog vomit like this? My heart is broken. I love my Coco with all of my heart. Please keep her in your prayers.... |
Oh my!! Poor Coco!!! I saw that there were no responses yet and I am hoping to bump this up so someone who knows about this can help you and Coco. If not, PM me and I will contact some of my YT friends for advice. I am so sorry to hear this! Sending prayers and good vibes to you and Coco. |
I'm so sorry :( Poor Coco that sounds awful. I haven't experienced this, so I have no advice. But my hugs and prayers go out to you and Coco. Good idea to bump it Sheli :) |
I am so sorry that CoCo is having these problems. I have never had one that did this. Do you know when the biopsy results will be back? Sending prayers for your girl. |
I don't have any experience or advice either:( One thing that I can do is pray for your little Coco Bean and also pray that they can figure out what is making her so sick. Poor baby. |
Keeping your little one in my prayers... |
Praying that your Coco feels better soon. Poor baby, and you must be a wreck with all the worry (not to mention the $$$), but Coco is so worth it. |
welcome to yorkie talk... i'm sorry that you did not find us under better circumstances and that coco is so sick. i'm sorry that i do not have any advice for you, but i will say prayers that they find out what is wrong with your precious coco and that she is all better very soon. hopefully someone with more experience will respond soon. just to make sure, the chicken and rice that you gave her was plain and did not have any seasoning on it-right? i'm sure it was but just a thought. any kind of spices could irritate her more. also, did coco have any treats / jerky that are made in china before she got sick? we have seen so many pups get sick from them on this site. the fda has issued several warnings to pet owners but the treats are still being sold in the stores because they're still under investigation. there are about 15 brands in question including waggin' train, canyon creek ranch, and milo's kitchen. more info on that can be read by clicking these links More on Chicken Jerky Pet Treat Alert FDA Continues to Caution Dog Owners About Chicken Jerky Products again, just a thought. i've been through similar situations with 2 yorkies and both times, in our case, it was pancreatitis but i see that has been ruled out. please know that coco bean will be in my thoughts and prayers. i truly hope she is feeling better today. i know this is so hard on you too financially and emotionally. please keep us updated when you can, i will be checking back to see how she is doing. hugs to you both. |
I'm sorry CoCo is so sick. I don't have any advice...but wanted to let you know I will pray for sweet CoCo. I pray they find out what is going on and are able to get her on the road to recovery quickly. Bless her heart. Hugs to you both. |
just thought of something else... my zowi was hospitalized last september with similar symptoms. (she had pancreatitis) she was given an injection of cerenia and it stopped her vomitting right away. if they haven't given it to your girl, please ask your vet about it. our vet said it is a miracle drug for nausea and it is not just used for pancreatitis, but for any kind of acute vomitting. the injection was pretty inexpensive, around $35. like your girl, no meds could be given by mouth so zowi was given the injection, but it is available in pill form as well. zowi would not eat at all and couldn't stop vomitting until after she had that shot. i was told that dogs receiving chemo and or radiation treatments often get an injection of cerenia to prevent nausea and vomitting from the treatments. it is also often prescribed in small doses in pill form for motion sickness. something to definitely ask about..... here's a link for more info https://animalhealth.pfizer.com/site...s/Cerenia.aspx |
Thank you all for your prayers!!! She was given Reglan for the nausea and vomiting. She stopped vomiting last night. They said she could come home. I was all excited and getting ready for her. Right before I left to get her, she started vomiting again. :( They had given her antibiotics orally. That might have made her sick. I did get a call about the biopsy and she has mild to moderate IBS. They are giving her a steroid for that. This has cost us $$$$ and lots of emotional ups and downs. I am so glad to finally know what is going on. Do you any of you know about IBS??? Thank you again for your prayers! |
