Taking Skeeter in Getting a bit worried about 1 of my 2 house guest Yorkies. Skeeter and Moose are staying with me for a month or two while their veteran dad recovers from a heart attack. Yesterday Skeeter started coughing/gagging. At first I thought it was just reverse sneezing from being over-excited, but he keeps doing it. Almost sounds like there's something caught, but maybe it's just a bad case of bronchitis or something. I'm taking him in in a litter bit - Fingers crossed it's nothing and I'm just being as overprotective of him as I am with my own babies, but I'd rather take him in and be told it's nothing then not take him in and have it turn into something serious! |
I don't know, but I hope it nothing serious with this little one. Keep up posted. |
Bless your sweet heart for helping him and them out. I hope it isn't anything serious. About halfway down this page, different problems with coughing in yorkies is discussed: Alex's Yorkie Care Frequently Asked Questions. Page 3. |
Sending best wishes for Skeeter. Max had a weird gagging thing recently. I thought he was choking and we went to the ER. He was much better by evening, but the doc said he had a throat irritation. We still don't know if he swallowed something to irritate his throat, or if he had a doggy cold, or what. He ended up having antibiotics and a steroid and after 2 weeks he was back to 100%. We were all choking on pollen and dry, dusty conditions here at the time. After one little rain, he seemed so much better. |
Great information, thank you! Benjamin had a case of kennel cough when I got him out of the shelter - He'd been on antibiotics a week and pretty much done coughing by the time Skeeter and Moose came here, so I'm hoping that's all it is - Even though they where vaccinated, it could be. That said, reading that and from my experience, it does almost sound more like a tonsillitis or something caught he isn't managing to hack back up, that's more what I'm worried about! He does love his stuffies, and has murdered a couple! |

Prayers for you and Skeeter that it isn't anything serious and he's better very soon. |
Just got home. Vet thinks it's just allergies and bronchitis from the changing weather here - told me to keep humidifier running and sent him home with some antibiotics and a cough med for a week or so. Slight chance it's a collapsing trachea - but where it came on so suddenly I doubt it's that. |
I pray the meds take care of the problem and that it isn't CT. Max's came on suddenly too, that is why I thought he had to be choking. I read a vet's blog that said this is very common, person thinks dog is choking and it is almost always a throat illness/cough thing. Best wishes and prayers for Skeeter. :) |
Hope your baby is feeling better today. Susan |
hope the meds work and its nothing more!!! ur such a good foster mommy!! =*(()) |
Hope Skeeter is feeling better today. |
I hope Skeeter is doing better and the medicines are helping. You are a great person helping so many. |
Have you ask Skeeter's dad if Skeeter has been coughing before you started taking care of him? Could be he's in early stages of collapsed trachea. Hope it isn't though. Keep us informed. |
