Pancreatitis.... Hi my Yorkie is currently admitted to the vets with suspected acute pancreatitis. Does anyone have any advice about this is yorkies? Any experience? Suggestions. Thanks. |
It's quite common in Yorkies. High fat foods/treats can set it off, and some pups are just sensitive and will need a special diet for life. Best wishes for your pup... hope he can come home soon! |
I pray your little one will be home with you soon. Echoing what KJC wrote, talk to your vet about an appropriate diet and adhere to it strictly. |

Hi , i hope your baby feels better soon. My boy is quite sensitive as well. He cannot eat a high protein all meat diet or any treats except his kibble. |
No advice, except do what your vet tells you to do. Piccolo was in the ER for three days and nights with Pancreatitis probably from licking turkey grease about 4 years ago. It was very tough and I am sure you are feeling the same right now. Cyber hugs... |
So sorry hoping your baby is better soon |
Praying your little one is home and feeling better very soon. |
my friends dog has had pancreatitis for years and does solid gold low fat kibble, and has done well, ham and pork and high fat is not good for them |
Wee update Just a wee Update on our Poppy she's back home after 10days in the vets. She was a very sick wee doggie, she's on a low fat diet to see how she goes and is eating and drinking really well so fingers crossed things keep going like this, she has to get neuter and a wee biop done on her liver coz they have found something on it so hopefully it's not the big C word thanks for everyone comments and love xxxxx |
My Presley has been living with Pancreatitis since he was 6. So basically 10 years. He has had flare ups off an on. Usually a bad one about once a year. Make sure you stick to the diet your vet has put your baby on and don't feed it any fattening table food. Its best to not feed table food at all - because the diet they are on basically has no flavor and will wait you out if they think you will feed them from the table. My baby has been through 3 different gastrointestinal dog foods as of this past week, because he gets bored with it. He went from Iams to ID and now to EN - which he loves right now. He would turn his nose up and I had to start feeding him bland chicken and rice and then he had another flare up so...its back to the dog food. My vet says even though the chicken is low in fat, it is still harder to digest than the prescription dog food. So, we've switched again. Presley will usually have some sort of stomach upset about once a month. Probably due to my husband giving him too many treats in a day. Our vet usually provides us with famotidine and will put a little extra so we don't have to always take him back into the vet. Which usually costs about $300 a trip when he's like this. Probably because we've been living with this for so long and he trusts our judgment. He is always surprised that he has managed to live this long with this condition and he believes its because we take really good care of him. Please feel free to email me with any questions. |
Thank goodness she is home now. Have they done blood work to check her liver ? if not I would want that done BEFORE she is put under anaesthesia for a biopsy or spay. I will be praying it's nothing serious. |
They would definately need blood work to determine if she has pancreatitis. I'll tell you if she does have pancreatitis, I would think they would let her heal from that before doing any kind of procedure on her. Pancreatitis is very painful to them. My vet won't even give Presley shots if he is acting up at that time- which has happened once. Of course, if its shots related to his treatment that is different. I'm speaking of yearly shots. |
