Throwing up Bile Hi YTers. I will call vet tomorrow, but wanted to ask your expertise at well. Coco Chanel has been spitting up bile at least 1-2 times/week. She's not much of an eater and I wonder if hunger is giving her bile. Our daily routine is as follows: we're up at 5a and while we play, I hand feed her to ensure she gets something in her tummy before I leave for work. She eats Wellness Adult but never eats the 1/4 cup I start out with. I leave the remaining food out just in case she gets hungry. Play ends at 6a. I leave for work around 7:15 and try to be back home by 6:30-7:00p. I will find bile on the floor when I get home. She'll drink water (gerber pur), but the food is untouched. I walk her, she poops and is happy. If we play at home, I'll hand feed her again. If we go to the park, the i'll hand feed her when we get home. She does eat on her own if I give her chicken which I will do if she doesn't eat what I consider to be enough kibbles. So, do you think she needs to eat more often? If I give her a 10p snack, what do you recommend? Should I stop giving her boiled chicken to supplement the kibbles? What do you think. BTW she is 15 months old. Thanks! |
P.s. she got a clean bill of health from vet last Saturday. She even gained 1.3 lbs since last August and now weighs 6.3. Her teeth are beautiful. I was so happy with the appt that I forgot to mention this to the vet. |
If she is not eating while you're gone, that is almost 12 hours without food. That's awhile to go without food, especially for yorkies. I'm thinking the bile is from an empty tummy. Could you get her a Kong and stuff it with healthy treats? She might be more interested in that than her kibble during the day. |
ZoE pukes yellow frothy bile if she goes too long without eating. If she went 12 hours without eating, I could pretty much guarantee I'd be coming home to puke on the floor. I feed her at 6:30am, 4-5pm and 10:30-11pm (the evening times vary slightly depending on when I'm home from work and when we go to bed). This has pretty much solved the problem. I'd leave her with a stuffed kong during the day as extra nurishment. Or you can buy time released dispensers that you could put something yummy in for an afternoon treat. |
Thanks. Next week I think I'm going to get myself ready for work first before play/eat time. That should delay her breakfast till at least 6-6:30. Hope it works out. |
is there any way that you can have someone come in during the day to check on her and maybe get her something to eat? I know that my 2 will not usually eat when I leave. I try to get them to eat before I leave because the do not touch their food until I get home. |

Thanks everyone. I did get myself ready for work first, so playtime/breakfast was at 6a instead of 5a. She didn't eat any more kibbles than usual, but I did supplement with a bit of chicken so I was comfortable that her tummy was full. No bile on the floor today and I fed her as soon as I got home (walk came after) and she ate her usual small amount of kibble. She's eating a bit more now so hopefully this will fix her tummy issues. I was also thinking of getting a bag of Blue Buffalo to see if she likes it better. Thanks again. |
