sick puppy! hello, my husband and I just bought a new yorkie puppy on this past monday. The lady we bought him from gave us a bag of his food and told us to mix it with can food in the morning and just give him the dry food at night. well we didn't have any can food and couldnt get any until thursday, so we put a little bit of water in the dry food to moisten it. He ate a little bit of it tuesday but not a lot. He started throwing up wednesday evening. During the day wednesday he still didnt eat a whole lot. Then thursday I got him the can food. I mixed it with his dry food and he eat a couple bites then went and laid down. So I took out the dry food and just gave him the can food and he ate a few more bites then laid down again. He has been drinking water and peeing so thats good, but he hasnt pooped since wednesday. This morning (friday) he was still throwing up. I gave him some fresh can food and he drank the water and ignored the food, then he went and laid down. I called the vet and she had us bring him in and she gave him some dewormer and sent some home with us to give him in a week. She said if he is still throwing up to take him in tomorrow morning. When we brought him home he threw up twice and then drank some water. and now he is sleeping. It seems all he wants to do is sleep. He is only 3 months old so at first I thought all the sleep was normal. Now I am getting worried. Do you think there could be something seriously wrong with him? Or do you think he is just adjusting to the new home? Maybe the water in his food upset his tummy? I am not sure but I am really worried about him. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you! |
My puppy (just 4 months now) was sick for a week when I bought him new food. Maybe you could change his food? I give him filter water as well, I don't drink the tap water so why should he? Lol Someone with more experience will probably give a better answer :) |
hi , if your puppy has been vomiting for a week i think he should have been to the vet before now. vomiting can quickly lead to dehydration. personally i would just go with the dry food the breeder gave you but please get this little guy to the vet.... |
he has only been throwing up for two days. He seems to be doing a little better. He is drinking normally and has only thrown up twice since we took him to the vet this morning. He still doesnt seem to have any interest in his food right now. I guess I will just keep watching him and take him to the vet in the morning if he doesnt seem to be getting any better. thank you for your replies. |
did the vet do anything other than give wormer..did he get any shots? i would be worried about dehydration and just beware not all vets are experienced with yorkies. i am not saying anything bad towards ur vet just metioning it. if you go thru previous threads on the sick and injured forum you might find some other insight to help you. i hope your baby will be ok. it is really scary when they are little. i was lucky my cedric was very healthy and i did not ever have this problem with him. only after vaccinations does he get lathargic and sickly. |
Your puppy needs to see the vet for the vomiting and lethargy neither is normal for a 3 month old pup |
I he needs to see a vet, now, and I tell my parents that I have a well and I use bottle water for the puppies, and give them a bottle, they are to mix equal parts of bottle water with their tap water if they are going to give the pup water from the tap for the first few days, because is different minerals and additives on different towns and states. it could be the water, just give him bottled water for a few days and change it slowly. if the vet checks him and he is ok, is probaly the water, give it a try.. hugs |
we took Louie to the vet this morning and there is air in his belly and a little bit of air in his intestines too. They gave him some medicine and an enema. we have to force food in him because he still doesnt want to eat, and we have to take him back to the vet in the morning to make sure his belly doesnt turn. please keep him in your thoughts and prayers because if his belly turns the vet said the survival rate is extremely low even with surgery :(. I hope this medicine works and he starts to feel better. even though we just brought him home on monday I love him so much and I hate seeing him like this. |
Sending prayers and hoping your baby starts feeling better soon!! |

Thank you for taking him to the vet. I will be praying for him & hope he gets better soon. |
Looking for a update |
sorry it took me a while to give you guys an update. we took louie back to the vet on sunday and there was less air in his belly and it looked like it was moving through his intestines. they had to give him another enema and sent us home with more meds. they told us that he NEEDED to poop before monday afternoon or we would have to take him back in for another enema. well monday morning we woke up and he was acting like a puppy! we were so excited. he was wagging his tail and giving us lots of kisses. he ended up pooping 3 times monday so we didnt need to take him back to the vet! we were so relieved. we had to feed him with the syringe still on monday and tuesday morning but tuesday at lunch he walked over to his food bowl and ate on his own! i was so happpy :D. today he is a happy loving puppy and is eating like a horse. thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for our scary time. it really means a lot to me! |
So glad hat he is doing fine and welcome to YT |
