Dribbling urine after neuter Hello all, I am new to yorkie talk and need some input. Jasper my 3#,6 mos old yorkie was neutered last Friday. Supposedly all went well and I picked him up that afternoon. On the way home I noticed he peed on me while in my lap. I just thought at the time it was due to the anesthesia not completely worn off. Well he has continued to dribble urine off and on. He is not intentionally peeing in the house but I will find his tummy fur wet and what ever he is laying on. Also have found dribbles of urine on the floor. This is not normal for him and he is house broken. I have an appt with his vet this afternoon but I was wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this. I am hoping that the vet did not damage a nerve..... 😔 |
I have heard of Yorkies having accidents after neuter/spay. I'm glad you are going to see your vet again. Sending positive thoughts for your little guy that this is just a temporary problem. Let us know what your vet says. |
I am not a vet, but hopefuly the vet did not nick something like his bladder when he was performing the surgery. Good luck |
It is normal to have some inconstinence after a surgery |

From petMD: "If there is incontinence related to neutering, it will be temporary, as the dog learns to control its urinary muscles again during the recovery process." |

I hope that is it! I never knew about that website. Thanks!! I will post back after the vet visit. |
Hopefully it is temporary, but I would have liked to see that 7days after surgery there was no more incontinence. There is a condition called "spay incontinence" that can affect either males or females after they are neutered. Unfortunately that condition is permanent and will need to be handled by the pet owner. |
Just got back from the vet. She said it possibly could be a urinary tract infection and/or some post operative swelling that should get better within the new couple of weeks. Also put him on a round of Clavamox. If it continues after that, I will have to bring him back to look at other possibilities. I am thinking it is swelling, at least hoping that is it. Thanks everyone for your input! :) |
I have posted a couple of replies but it said the moderator must approve and then I saw this quick reply. So here goes again, and forgive me if the answer posts twice. The the Vet said that it was probably post operative swelling and/or a urinary tract infection. She put him on Clavamox and said it should resolve within the next couple of weeks. If it continues, I will have to bring him back in to look at other possibilities. I am thinking it is post op swelling and hoping it clears up quickly. Thanks to all who have given their input. |

Hello, Just wanted to say that our Kenzie had the temporary incontinence after her spay, back in Nov-Dec, it lasted for a week or so and by now, she's back to normal. Hope yours is okay by now, and that the recovery time is going on smoothly. Take Care. |
