My dog ate an aluminum foil wrapper, is that dangerous? Not sure if this is where I should post this. My dog just ate a Laughing Cow cheese with the aluminum foil wrapper still on it. I don't know if this is something I should worry about and if I should do anything? |
I'm not sure... is there an emergency vet around that you can call? |
I personally wouldn't be too worried, but it’s always best to call the vet. Many people recommend giving a tablespoon of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) at each meal until the foreign object passes. It has a lot of fiber and can help digestion go faster. Things to look out for are vomiting and no bowel movements, if either occur it could mean an intestinal obstruction and your dog would need to be seen by a vet a.s.a.p. How big a piece of foil was it? I'd be a little worried about the cheese as well, it's so high in fat. Joey only gets a tiny piece of low fat cheese now and then. |
I'll second the pumpkin and add extra water to the diet also. Call the vet and see if this is an emergency or if this too shall pass. |
i agree i would call an emergency vet just to make sure |
Did he chew it or gulp it whole? I'd feel better if he chewed it because the foil will be more shredded and pass through easier. |
How's he doing today? |
I just took Bella to the vet today for a possible foreign body. She was vomitting, had diarrhea, and lost her appetite. The vet felt vomitting was the biggest concern for a blockage and I have to keep a close eye on her. I was given antibiotics and told to give pepcid for colitis. Her x-ray was mildly suspicious. Good luck! Hope your pup doesn't get sick like mine. |
