Need prayers for Rylee Belle I posted yesterday about an issue that Rylee was having. Now I am so frantic that I am taking her to the vet AGAIN today and insisting on tests. She has been vomiting and/or regurgitating since last Friday afternoon now (not all day, usually just once a day). I took her to the vet for this once before and he wrote it off as something she picked up outside and ate or just eating too fast. I've read so many scary things about what could cause this............I'm beside myself with fear right now!!!! She seems to be acting fine.......still wants to play and is still hungry and eating but I'm getting really scared right now. She is only a year old. She weighs about 6 pounds so she is not "tiny", just petite! I don't think she has lost any weight.............maybe I am just being paranoid and overreacting. I guess I'm just reaching out because I need some support until I find out what is going on.................... |
Or have you considered getting a second opinion with a different vet? Or a internal medicine specialist? Does she get any treats before bedtime? How close to her bedtime is her dinner (last meal)? I don't think you're over reacting... recurring vomiting of meals is a cause for concern and needs further investigation. |
Sending prayers for Rylee Belle. I think you are right to not just let this go. Better safe than sorry. Is the vomit yellow and foamy? Depending on length of time between last meal/treats and when vomiting is occurring, it could simply be something innocuous. Teddy had a very fast metabolism and would vomit a little yellow bile if I fed him breakfast too late. A couple kibble or a little plain yogurt before bedtime solved the problem. If she is vomiting in the middle of the night, that is not normal. |
Actually I keep dry food down for her all the time. Not a bunch......and she never eats all of it. I tried the two meal a day thing and she seemed to eat it so fast that she would make herself sick so we decided to try this approach. Usually she will eat some before she goes to bed, but not too much. She has been a difficult one to figure out as far as the best way to feed her. I'm hoping that it will just require a change in diet and that it is nothing serious. I'm on high alert right now because we just lost our little Sheltie to Kidney failure. We didn't even know there was anything wrong with her..........she started acting like her leg was hurting, developed very bad breath and within a week, we had to have her put down! She was only eight and had always been SO healthy (or so we thought). Our vet is a good guy.........he will do anything I ask. The last time he gave her some medicine and in cleared up...........it just seems to come and go so I need to figure this out. |
Are you giving any treats, if so, what kind? What brand/type of food is she eating? |
I am very sorry for your tragic loss of your Sheltie. I would definitely have blood tests done on Rylee Belle, a basic chemistry panel and a CBC. Most people recommend doing these annually. |
We tried her on SO many different kinds of food. She wouldn't eat any of the "high" end ones. She loves the Chef Michael (I'm sure that isn't the greatest) and I recently have started mixing in the Iams Healthy Naturals to slowly switch her over to that. So far she seems to like that. As far as treats..............I give her milk bones and every so often (not to often) those Cesar Softies. She doesn't get a lot of either one though. I do control the treats!!!! She loves chew sticks.............maybe I shouldn't be giving her those! Do you think this is my fault? Am I feeding her all wrong? I have never had a dog this small before................I feel pretty helpless. |

Have you seen this: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ky-treats.html Basically anything made in China... sold at Costco and Petsmart.... mainly chicken jerky treats.... And I am so sorry for the loss of your Sheltie.... that is what sent up a red flag to me.... passing young of kidney failure... and now your other pup is vomiting.... |

I think a member reported bad things about Canyon Creek Ranch chicken strips... I'll have to double check this. Cesar's treats contain BHT/BHA (sp) as preservatives (known carcinogins) and propylene glycol, the main ingredient in antifreeze... can be toxic to a sensitive dog. My dogs vomit after eating these... in the trash now. |
