Help! My yorkie has small black dots on armpits (photo) 1 Attachment(s) hello. after we picked up our dog from the dog kennel, he had these black dots (seems very itchy and frequently licking) under his armpits. can anyone shed some light on what these may be?? :) thanks in advance |
Welcome to YT ! It sounds & looks like it could be Flea bite allergy. If so then it will take meds to clear it up & Flea treatment for your pet/s, home & yard. |
The dots look like they are from fleas, and I agree about the flea bite allergy. |
Welcome to YT. It definitely looks like an allergic reaction to a flea bite. I would get some meds from the vet and get him on Frontline or Advantage ASAP. Georgie and I battled fleas a couple years ago and we WON:D |
I've seen similar dots on my dogs during allergy season, and they were NOT fleas. I suggest you bring the dog to a veterinarian for a diagnosis. |

They almost look like blood under the skin perhaps from scratching? I would have the vet take a look, it's most likely something simple but good to have it checked. Besides being really itchy sucks! Poor little guy. |
My Sassy gets these too...anyone ever find out what it is??? BTW...she does not have fleas ;) |
Mine get spots like that under their arms and on the chest during this time of year and they scratch alot. They don't have any fleas and my vet says it's a staph infection. He puts them on an antibotic and it clears them up. |

My vet puts them on simplicef and it starts clearing up in just a few days. |
Black Spots Thanks everyone for the info on this post, Sprocket had started to have these spots and I took him to the vet, first she says just skin allergy use shampoo etc, and that didn't work, cause I saw your pics we went to a different vet, then we went onto antibiotics, new vet says ya staph, my poor baby has been itchy and scratchy and chewing. Now his whole be hind is covered in tiny black spots and he is miserable, but I hope the meds help. One thing the vet said that I thought might help others and I did not know this, our dogs are small and close to the ground, STAPH is everywhere, on everything. In allergy season dogs run around in the grass etc and get the staph on them selves and then scratch their skin and walla infected, or at least maybe so if they have the skin sensitivity for it. If you live in an area that is having bad allergy season maybe extra "wipes" might be in order. Strengthen the skin. OK, after this is cleared up it's sure something we are going to look into. We live in golf course country! LOL. Hope this helps some one else. |

After having well over a hundred of these infections on Miss Mini I would say it does resemble a staph infection. |
To me, this looks exactly how Wylie looks when he gets pyoderma (a staph intermedius skin infection). It can look like this during the infection, prior to it, and it can look like this when there is no apparent infection (no bacteria under scope), but when pollens are high and the dog is scratching the area and/or it becomes inflamed. The only way to know is to go to your vet, and ask for a skin smear. They could also tell if it was a flea allergy rather than pyoderma. If it's pyoderma, Simplicef rocks!! |
