PLEASE HELP! Yorkie with Scabs, I need advise-going to the vet tomorrow Okay, so i took my lovely little Mee-kah out of town with me and we went to a home that had fleas. Mee-kad had 5 fleas which we took out and bathed her with Flea shampoo. I notied her flea bites started scabbing but read that it was normal. 3 weeks later (today) i went to bath her and noticed she has scabs all over the bottom of her neck, around one eye and the back of her ears. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow but can some one tell me what this could be? She has never had any kind of skin problem before and has been a healthy yorkie. I am so scared of what it can be. The week before we went out of town i took her to a new groomer and my inlaws are saying maybe she caught something there? Please help |
She could have a flea allergy |
it sounds like a flea allergy, good thing you are taking her to the Vet.. best of luck.. hugs, |
Thank you ladies! I Will keep you guys upated after her visit. I just got a call from my friend and she also said it may be flea allergies skin dermatitis. Thank you all for your reply and help! |
I would treat your home & yard for fleas as there are most likely some at your place now as well. You can comb & comb but it's near impossible to get every flea as they are fast & most likely some came off in your home & yard before you noticed them on your baby. Also they breed like rabbits so eggs are another worry. |
i agree with the others... my yorkie nika had flea allergy dermatitis. just one flea bite can set them off into a systematic reaction. we used to put a tshirt on her so she couldn't scratch herself as deeply when / if we saw her start to break out and took her to the dr right away. she was usually treated with an antibiotic and prednisone. we also used a prescription shampoo on her called allermyl, we got it at our vet office. we used frontline plus every 30 days but still had problems sometimes. good luck at the vet tomorrow! |
be careful with most of the flea shampoo, it can be very toxic to the little ones. Dawn dish soap the regualar stuff will work, just rinse well |
