Bones in Stomach.... I took Macie to the vet today and turns out she has little pieces of bone in her stomach. :( I found out my boyfriend had been giving her bones to play with. Anyway, shes on meds and a special diet. She has another appt next week. He said if shes not doing better by Friday, he was switching her meds. My question is, what happens if the bone fragments are still in her tummy. Does she have to have surgery or has anyone else had to deal with this before?:( |
If the bone fragments don't pass on their own, I would think surgery would be necessary. Did the vet say anything about doing surgery? Praying she won't need surgery.... |
He hasnt said anything about surgery right now. Can bones dissolve in her stomach? Not sure how that works. |
Small pieces can pass. Just depends. Are they in the stomach though or are they in the intestines? If they are staying in the stomach, then I'd hope your vet brings up surgery very soon. Also though, if they go through and aren't broken down, it could be very painful for your pup to poop. What are her symptoms? Is she puking? Holding down food? |

Before she went to the vet, she wasnt eating much, had diarrhea with mucus and blood in it. Shes on a certain type of food so shes eating that really well now. She pooped normal last night and it looked like a little piece had passed. Hopefully the rest will also. |
Poor baby, I hope she passes them easily. What type of bones were they? |

Did your vet tell you anything to watch for? |

i will pray they pass safely without surgery. tell daddy no more any kind of bones unless ok'd by mommy. =*(()) |
Well Macie just threw up her food she ate for today. She pooped before that, but it wasnt very solid. Now Im worried about her sugar getting low or her getting dehydrated. Any ideas on why she might have thrown her food up? She is on meds, but I fed her at 2pm. She vomited at 7pm. |
I have no advice. I just wanted to say, I'm praying for your girl, hope she will be ok. The safest thing for yoru girl is a follow up at the vet. I'm so sorry she is going through this. |

I would definitely call the vet tonight. If he isn't taking calls, then call an ER vet or take her in to be checked out. I hope she will be OK. |
I called the ER vet and they said not to feed her anymore. The doctor wanted her to come in, but I cant afford to take her. I live in Chicago and the ER vet she has been to is very expensive. Im going to take her at 9am to her regular vet. Im just worried about her sugar levels dropping since I cant feed her anymore. :( |
