Uti So Silver has a uti :( and my heart is breaking for her! But the vet said to give her some chicken noodle soup but I was wondering is it ok to give her chicken bouillon cubes? Like heated up with water to make broth. Because I don't have chicken noodle on hand and I can go get some but I kinda want to be lazy considering I was up watching her most of the night. Also sorry if this is the wrong section! |
Never heard of giving chicken noodle soup for a uti.... |
It's not to cure it it's because she doesn't want to eat or drink. They gave her liquids but also suggested the soup for home. |
Are you sure he doesn't mean Chicken Soup for the dog lovers Soul? It a dog food. If he means regular chicken soup it's possible to make it without salt, but NEVER use bouillon cubes, they have way to much salt and could kill a dog. He may want you to make some chicken broth and have that for him to drink, which should encourage Noodle to drink more. They do sell unsalted chicken broth in the store, but again make sure that it’s unsalted, it’s not as good as homemade, but a dog might not know. To make chicken broth, boil a chicken in a big pot for 4 hours until it falls apart. You should have enough water to cover the chicken by an inch. Do not add salt or any other flavorings. When you are finished boiling remove the meat and defat either by refrigerating and scraping the fat off or by using a gravy separator. I think I call the vet and ask him exactly what he meant. If he means people’s chicken noodle soup, you’d still want to tweak the recipe so that its dog friendly. |
Thank you so much Nancy! I looked on the internet but everything I read said it was ok to give her chick bouillon but I wasn't taking the chance and was just waiting for someone on here to tell me. |

They didn't tell me why but I may call in the morning and ask...It's also been almost a year since she's been spayed. |

I had actually read something about giving them cranberry juice somewhere on the internet and I had a friend mention cranberry pills but I wouldn't know where to find the pills. She's acting more normal now then earlier. She's ate a bit and drank some but she would rather my boyfriend put the water in a syringe and give it to her like a little princess. |

Teddy had a problem with UTIs and crystals. The best thing we did after treatment by the vet was to add liquids to his diet. I made him fresh chicken broth and removed the fat, because I did not want anything processed or too salty for him like store bought brands have. I diluted the soup and poured it on his food. I do not agree with the use of cranberry supplements or cranberry juice as long term use of bladder acidifiers can lead to the formation of oxalate crystals which turn into oxalate stones that usually require surgery. Instead, I would treat the infection w/ antibiotics, culture the urine to make sure that it's gone, and add liquid to the diet in the form of fresh chicken broth as above. I've also used tuna juice in a pinch and diluted it. Good luck. |

In dogs, the use of cranberry juice or other acidifiers lead to the formation of oxalate crystals and stone formation. That's why her vet recommended chicken soup and not cranberry juice. |
