Trouble opening one eye first time poster here, I have a small boy yorkie, 2.2 kg about 4.8 pounds, and only a year and 3 months old. He's been having trouble opening his right eye and seems to be constantly squinting through it. My girlfriend gave him a hair cut around his eye and gave him a bath and gently cleaned that area around the eye. He's not crying or seems to be any pain. Also his vision seems to be fine as well. Acting normal, appetites normal as well. Im thinking either allergies or some sort of uni-lateral trauma. I was wondering what kind of first-aid I could apply to give him any relief until I can take him to the vet in the morning. Thank you for any help! |

Your pup is very young so it needs to be checked out, please. |
I agree with Lynzy...your little guy needs to see a vet asap! Just the fact that he is squinting makes me think he may be in pain. Eye problems can be terribly painful. Good luck! |
I would not self medicate like everyone has said. Kayla had trouble opening one eye after a bath a couple of years ago. I thought maybe I got water in her eyes but then after I had blowed dryed her she was still having problems. I took her to the vet immediately and was glad I did. She had an ulcer in her eye we had to treat with drops for about a week or so. Hope thats not what it is but please have the baby's eye checked asap. |
I personally would not wait until tomorrow. I have been to the EC more than once with pups with eye issues....if this is an ulcer, the damage to that eye could be greatly increased by tomorrow...even to a point of him losing his vision. If at all possible, you really should take him to an EC today. While it may not be an ulcer, it is better to be safe than sorry. Eye issues are not to be taken lightly. Good luck! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Were you able to get your little guy to the vet to take care of his eye? My oldest, Maximo, has suffered eye problems, specifically corneal ulcers. They are excruciatingly painful, but he continued to eat normally and wanted to be active. As others wrote above, never wait when it comes to eye issues and never try home remedies -- you could put your pup's vision and eyeballs at risk. |
I hope you were able to get the little guy to the vet and he is doing better. |
Any updates on this pup?? |
I hope you were able to get him to the vet and find out what was wrong with his eye... Please update us! |
I wouldn't wait on this. With something like simple conjunctivitis, you'd see gunkiness and red conjunctiva. But when a dog is holding an eye shut or squinting, you truly have to get it checked out asap. |
Just saw this, I sure hope this little pups eye ok. Praying that got her to vet and no word means all is well. |
Checking for an update. Hope that you followed our advice and went to the vet....and hope your pup is better! |
