UPDATE: We visited with Cali this morning (sorry, no pictures this time). And she is completely frustrated by her situation. She is starting to whimper a bit. I think she is just tired of lying around and wants to be a normal little Yorkie like before. I took her around during our visit to sniff things and make her feel more normal & look out the window...she liked it. However, I do have great news: She PEED!!! On her own!!! I'm so happy she pottied on her own! I take this as a very good sign because she' been getting expressed 3 times a day but she just did it on her own (albeit all over herself but I don't care since she's immobile). Another good thing...she's getting such good, personal attention here. For example, someone on the night shift took the time to hold her and french braid her topknot. I've done this numerous times myself so I'm sure it made her feel right at home. There might be another good tidbit, during our visit my husband claims to have seen her legs move independent of one another. I personally didn't notice a change but he says he saw it. And her student said she's been moving around in her cage much more. To ALL of you: thank you-thank you-thank you sooooo much for the support and prayers. Please keep them coming. I am still praying for all of you to be blessed beyond measure. On another note, Cali's student has 1 more night with her and she will get assigned a new student on Monday. My husband and I would like to get something for Allison (her current student) since she's been so wonderful to us and Cali. Does anyone have a suggestion of what we could get a 4th year Vet student? More updates to come... |
How sweet that one of the staff members did her hair! It is so nice that she is getting individual tlc! :) As for a gift for Allison.. Perhaps a gift card to a restaurant? I suppose it is a bit impersonal but students usually love them. Maybe put it in a card with Cali's picture. Or....ask where the MSU book store is...maybe you can find something there! That is so sweet that you want to give her a gift. |
Great news! Praying that she continues to improve... |
I been watching this post and praying for Cali. Anyways what wonderful news that she could go potty on her own. I just pray that she gets well very soon and she has a long wonderful healthy life. I know what you are going through our last yorkie was at Mn University Veterinary Hospital. They do get great care at these teaching hospitals and Cali is in great hands. You are a great mom and Cali knows you are helping her. Bless you. Susan |
Thanks Susan! Latest UPDATE: No change in her condition although she did potty on her own again. However, Allison (her student) said she is worried about urine burn. I'm wondering if they can't use something like Boudreaux's Butt Paste to protect her belly and legs...? It's what we use in the hospital for incontinent adults. Anyway, we had an extra long visit which was great b/c tomorrow we head home on a long 4 hour miserable drive. I only say miserable b/c we are going home without her. So we'll see her in the am and then head home. The student will call me everyday to give me updates. Test results come back next week...yea! My husband and I got a care basket for the ICU staff to keep them from being hungry. It had all kind of goodies in it such as ritz crackers, triscuits, squeeze cheese, chips ahoy cookies, hershey's miniatures, individual bags of chips, and a can of mixed nuts. I can't take care of my Cali but they can...the least I can do is take care of them! I know they likely eat on the go all the time. Cali gets a new student Monday so I hope she is as good as Allison has been. Everyone here is great! I have read every single post and prayed for everyone that has responded. You are a blessing to us. My husband loves for me to read the responses to him each day. It brings us comfort to know that there are others out there praying for us and understanding what we are going through... |
Prayers for little Cali and her family, heal fast and travel safe! |
I have been reading your thread and am praying for your sweet baby. I sure hope they figure it out soon and she responds to treatment. It's great that she has peed twice on her own. Bless her heart! Hugs to you and your hubby! |
I will be thinking of you tomorrow...I know it is going to be so hard to leave Cali. Hopefully you will be returning soon to bring her home! Safe trip! Prayers for all of you... |
What a thoughtful gesture to give them the special snack basket. Your kindness and Cali's cuteness will touch the staff and I am sure they will keep a special eye out for your sweet baby. Best wishes to you and your husband. Sending prayers for Cali's and all those taking care of her. May healing light shine down upon her legs and ease the tension, may the toxins dissolve, and sweet Cali return home soon. |
I have followed all the updates and will continuously pray for you, the family and Cali. It's a very slow recovery and it sounds she is so well loved and care for, both at the hospital and at home. It sure is heart breaking when you go home without her this time, but the time you go back and pick her up will be very soon too. Keep us all posted. |
UPDATE: We visited with Cali this morning for the last time until the end of the week. Allison gave us extra time. I took my baby "walking"....I walked, she sniffed. It was cool out, windy, and sunny. I even put her little front paws in the grass and held her back end up like the wheelchair babies. She could get around briefly but I think she has some weakness... I hate leaving her...we left a bone & rope in her cage with her. The staff has been so wonderful. Allison said if they slow down in ICU then Cali will get extra love and attention. My heart is breaking but I think this is best for her. I will give any updates I get which will be by phone now. Thank you everyone! God bless all of you for sticking with us through this. |
I am just so sorry. Reading this breaks my heart. Your love for Cali always comes through in your posts. She does have lots of YT prayers going out for her and I do believe in the power of YT prayers! |
Still Praying for a diagnosis & complete recovery. |
Back from Mississippi. I'm exhausted. But the worst thing is the little furry void in my heart. It hurts so bad to be away from my baby. I want to see her face and touch her...give her kisses on her nose. I took pics and made a video of her walking in the grass so that I can watch it over & over until I go back. I should be getting a call from Allison tonight. She will be with her through tomorrow and then Katelyn takes over. |
