Stepped on Yorkie Ok, so typically I always take Buttons to the vet in any kind of questionable situation but this one is unique. So Buttons is a small 4.2 lb little boy, and he has a large friend Cam (a rott), brought together by their mommy (Buttons) and daddy (Cam) , they are kept separate unless supervised, although Cam is very gentle and docile around Buttons. Earlier Camber did step on Buttons back very quickly by mistake, Buttons yelped once and took off playing some more. That was 7 hours ago, I've kept an extra eye on Buttons, he has acted completely normally. However a few minutes ago it was as if his right leg was stepped on or spasmed he yelped and kept it tight to his chest for a minute and then again was fine. Now his right leg has a titanium locking plate in it from an old injury when he was a very young very silly puppy who launched himself off of my chest while laying on a couch. On occasion his plate will irritate him but it is rare, usually when its cold or humid. If anything out of the ordinary happens again I'm taking him to the animal ER... but if anyone has any advice or medical input I would very much appreciate it. |
I would be a little nervous if now he is having pain in his leg. Go with your instinct |
Aww..Personally, I would take him to the vet as soon as you can..Keep an eye on him..Feel around his leg to see how he reacts when you touch it..Hope he's ok! |
Sending well wishes and prayers that the little guy will be fine. |
I would definitely get him to the vet to be checked out! Good luck. :) |
If this was one of mine I would certainly go to the Vet as soon possible. |
Welcome to YT. Glad you and Buttons have joined us here. We are all very passionate about our Yorkies, and of course other pets too. I'm sorry to hear Buttons may have sustained an injury from the large dog stepping on his back. I hope you can take him in to have it checked out. Keep us posted. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I would take him to the ER for a quick xray to make sure everything with his plate and his back is as it should be. I'd be afraid waiting may only make things worse... Praying all is good... |
I would take him asap. Poor baby, thats bound to have hurt like heck. They are like kids. Its like they will play as long as they can and when they don't, you know something is wrong. Even though its just a spur of the moment thing so far, something could still be injured. Better safe than sorry. |
My big ole lab sat down on Heidi's leg when she was just a baby and it broke her leg. Poor girl had to wear a cast for about six weeks. Good luck to you and I'm praying for your little one. |
I would get him to the vet... It's better to know than to be in the dark. |
Their little legs are so fragile. The plate and screws in his leg can become loose after a time. If by chance the screws are backing out, it can be painful and irritating to the skin. These hairy little pups are hard to assess visually. Run your finger along the area of the plate and see if you can feel the screw heads. It might be time for the plate to be removed, your vet will know for sure. |
