Paw Infection A couple of days ago I noticed Piccolo was licking her paw. ( Since that was a first symptom of her Cutaneous Vasculitis four years ago, I was concerned). But, after looking at her paw, I saw a pink irritated area. It did not get better overnight and after discussing with Ladyjane, I took her to the vet yesterday. For now, she is being treated for an infection. One of her toes is very swollen, poor thing. She is on Clavamox and has to have her paw soaked in an Epsom salt solution twice a day for twenty minutes. Anyone ever to do that before? (Interesting carrying through with that - ha.) The vet thinks maybe her nail split or something like that. I think it might have happened when she was trying to get up our wood floor steps and lost her footing and had to claw her way, before I could run up and get her. Anyway, has anyone dealt with an infection like this before? I am hoping it is going to clear up, but it looks worse this morning. :( Please keep her in your thoughts. Thanks! |
No advice, just wanted to say I hope Pic heals quickly. |
So sorry to hear darling Piccolo is dealing with an infection. Wishing her a speedy recovery. |
I've dealt with interdigital cysts with Epsom soaks and antibiotics and it clears up pretty quickly. Not exactly the same but sounds similar. |
Just wanted to say I'm sorry Piccolo is having to deal with this. Hope her paw heals up quickly! |
So sorry Piccolo is having trouble with her paw! Oliver sends his love and we will keep her in our prayers for quick healing:) |
This is how I deal with soaks. Barney Soaking Foot 5-06.3g2 - YouTube |

I did it by gently cupping her paw and both my hand and her foot in the soak. She was good about it, and we both sat on the couch together. (Had a towel and a blanket for spills.) But, your way looks much better. Also, thank you everyone for the get well wishes. Piccolo hopes she can party with the best of all our pups soon. ;) |
Oh no! I hope Piccolo is doing better. If you think it looks worse, I would call the vet and check with him/her. They can tell you what to expect during the course of treatment... see improvement in X number of days, if none see by day X: call or come in, etc. Praying it heals quickly! |
Hopefully this will clear up soon. If you really think it is worse, you might want to call your vet....remember it's the weekend!! I know from experience that if anything is to go awry, it usually happens on the weekends when it costs more. |

I am happy to say that her toe/digit (whatever it is called) looks a little better this afternoon. If it takes a turn for the worse, I will be the first one to be calling them tomorrow morning. I think the ladies that work in the front recognize my voice. :) Unfortunately, I learned from my own mishap, that an infection is nothing to mess around with. |
That's great that it is improving! :) |
Aww, I'm so sorry littel Piccolo and you are going through this. Sending prayers for her speedy healing. You are such a good mommy:thumbup: Bless you both. |
