We are doing everything we can. We are calling the vet Monday for tests. There is nothing we can do until then. And she is not puking anymore. She hasn't since Wed. |
Thanks everyone! |
Puppy Gruel ! Im sure that you are just going out of your mind with concern for your baby and wondering why noone knows what is the cause. I hope that your parents help you with the cost of the blood work/tests. I think that that is the key to finding out what is going on with her. Than maybe the x rays to rule out Mega. Just continue doing what you are doing and take care of her the best way you know how. One thing that I might suggest you doing since she has trouble with solid and softer foods and now isn't eating the chicken and rice. I would try feeding her a puppy gruel, like breeder use for weaning the pups. It may be something to consider and hopefully something that she can actually keep down. (unless it is a food allergy) That you might want to think about making the smoothy with the chicken and rice in place of the kibble. Here are a few different recipes and consistencies: 5 weeks old (shake like) 1 c [F [F 1/2 can puppy food (mashed) 1 jar [F (beef flav) Mix into a shake like consistency. If needed add more goats milk to get the right consistency. Heat/warm, put into a shallow glass dish and serve. If hesitant put a bit on your finger and put in there mouth. Serve a little at a time, keep refrigerated and heat as needed. 6 weeks old (malt like) 1 1/2 c goats milk (add more if needed) 1/2 can puppy food (mashed) 1 jar baby food (beef flav) 1/2 c puppy kibble (ground) using a blender/food processer 7 weeks old (putty like) 1/2 can puppy food (mashed) 1 c puppy kibble (ground up) using a blender/food processer replace goats milk with water/enough to keep moistened |
I am glad you are taking her into the vet on Monday for testing. I was really worried when I read how many times your yorkie was throwing up. I felt it was more serious than just a food allergy. I know you want to help your yorkie and that you have been trying to figure out why she is throwing up. I am glad your parents are helping and I hope you can find out what is making her sick. Good luck on Monday. Is that her in your avatar? She is a real sweetie. Best wishes. |
Hope all goes well over the weekend...and that things go well on Monday. |
Thanks! And yes she is my avatar!! She was much younger there! |
So glad you'll be able to take her for further testing... in the meantime, have you tried feeding her smaller meals more often? |
Yes we actually did try that! For now the chicken and rice is working. Shes acting like she doesn't want to eat it though! She's never been a picky eater and she loooves to eat. Maybe it's bc she's not puking and she's not hungry? Any thoughts? |

Does she chew her food, or does she eat really fast, gulping it down? Does she get treats in between meals? |
A little bit of both! Prob mainly gulping. |

Exactly what brands of food is she eating and what treats does she get? Does she eat grocery store brands or pet store brands? Which ones in particular? Like Purina ONE, Iams, Royal Canin...etc? Which treats does she get? Bully sticks, pig ears, chicken Jerky, Milkbones, chewy treats, rawhide chews, etc...? What do you do after she vomits? Do you remove her food and water for a few hours or do you leave it down for her? |
Sometimes both! Most of the time its whole food, but sometimes it's liquids. The last food I bought was Solid Gold from pet supplies plus. She's tried, purina, s diet, beneful. She's also tried soft foods like Cesar and beneful. She gets a treat every morning (puperonis) they are her favorite! She doesn't care for bones. And usually after she pukes I just clean it up and make her lay down. |
My advice is to stick with the Hills I/D food for now...and no more Pup-Peroni treats. Those things might be what is making her sick!!! Google this: dog sick pup-peroni |

There are special bowls made for dogs who eat too fast, as this can make them vomit too. Or you can spoon feed her by only giving her a teaspoon full at a time, and spread her meal out to 10 to 15 minutes or so instead of her eating it all in 5 seconds. Food and water bowls should be stainless steel or ceramics (human grade for food use). I would feed her the I/D as your vet suggested for now. With all the vomiting she has done, her system needs time and bland food to heal itself. You can discuss what to feed her once she's recovered with your vet, as that may depend on her diagnosis.. Whenever a dog vomits, the food and water should be removed, and the dog should be fasted for 6, 12, or 24 hours. Once they vomit, if they go and eat or drink again too soon, they'll just throw up again, and again , and again. Fasting the dog allows time for their tummy to settle down. When food and water is reintroduced to the dog, only give tiny amounts to begin with, One teaspoon of food, 1/8 cup of water. If they keep that down for 15-30 minutes, repeat that amount and watch again. If that stays down, double the amounts and watch her again. If she vomits again, start over with fasting for a longer time. If it stays down, give a small amount one more time, then try a full meal. If she starts to drink too much water though, pick it up and give her smaller amounts at a time until she stops trying to empty the entire bowl. |
Checking in to see how she's doing.... |
Great! She hasn't puked since Wed! We went out today and bought her the most natural food we could find and she loved it and kept it down all day! |
Great news! |
Thank you! I'm thrilled. It's funny how changing one thing can dramatically help her! We're still getting the blood work done to make sure shes in tip top shape. Thank you everyone for all the help! It means so much to me. I will for sure let you know what happens next week . |
