Bad news for my Bailey I took Bailey to the vet today. She weighed in at 3lbs and I got some disturbing news. Bailey has stage 5 luxating patella in both hind legs :( Doctor said she will get along fine, but I feel so sad for her. I find myself carrying her everywhere. Keep us in your prayers please |

7 months. Thank you! |
My prayers are for you and I hope Bailey gets better. Take a day at a time and maybe later you can get his little legs fixed. All he needs is your love and prayers help. Susan |
Yikes, poor baby..are they referring to an Orthopaedic Spec? Might be something to consider while your digesting this news. I wish you both a ton of luck. My Miss Mini is going for her surgery this April. Shes doing good right now, but its definitely time. |

Anyways, I'm sorry your Bailey has this problem. |
sorry will keep you both in my thoughts. |
I'm sorry about Bailey. Have you looked into surgery? It sounds like she will definitely need it. |
I hope Bailey is not having any pain. My McKenzie has a grade 4 and has only had a problem one time when she stumbled over a stick. She was better within three weeks. My vet says if she is not having problems he is just going to check it when she comes in for exams. She just turned two. Good luck with you little one. |
Maggie has grade 3 LP in both rear legs. She only had a problem once. Otherwise you'd never know it. The vet said the scale is 1-4, grade 4 being the worst. He also said that we can either have surgery on her, or just keep an eye on it and can address it if it becomes a chronic problem for her of if she starts to experience pain from it. We discussed it with him and amongst ourselves and decided to wait and watch it. Of course, if it gets to bothering her a lot we will have the surgery. |
So sorry to hear this, will keep her in my prayers! |
My Mikki has LP. My vet said to watch her weight, don't let her do a lot of jumping, and watch for signs of pain. Right now we are just taking minor measures and will talk about other things if needed. I have stairs going up to my bed and try my best not to allow her to jump. Mikki has a stage 4 I believe. If I remember correctly. TxVicki, my vet did it on a scale of 5. Not sure if maybe different vets use different scales? Wishing the best for your baby. |
Sending prayers for Bailey. Sending positive thoughts for his comfort and pain free. |
Thank you everyone. Bailey is in no pain that I know of. Dr said to just watch her and we will keep monitoring her. Being that she is just 7 months and probably had this awhile she thinks it's normal. It sure doesn't stop her from jumping around and enjoying her play time. I've decided to stay calm and just enjoy her (I will continue to watch her, as I am over protective :)) thank you for all your prayers. Bailey and I appreciate everyone of them. Just keep praying for no pain, I don't think my heart could take that :( |
Luxating Patella is graded 1 - 4. Here is a link about LP that may be helpful. If your puppy has such a degree of LP, I am quite sure she should be seen by a board certified orthopedic surgeon. Yorkie Haven Rescue - Patellar Luxation Info Often pups with LP also have torn ligaments...here is another link about that: Yorkie Haven Rescue - Cranial Cruciate Ligament Tear Info |

Bevo has had issues since he was about 6 months old... At one point he wouldnt use his rear right leg at all for about 4 weeks,,,we scheduled the surgery, then suddenly he was better, so we put off the surgery!! Just keep an eye on her...she may never need to have surgery!!! |

I do hope your baby will be ok, but I think I'd find an orthopedic Vet. |
I researched and only found up to a 4. I was going off my vet sorry for the confusion. |
