Ear Issue Tobi is favoring his left ear. Scratching it constantly and it is very red and irrated. Any suggestions for helping with this would be appreciated. Any idea what could have cause this sudden onset? H has been inside most of the day, just go out this evening to go take care of business.thanks! :aimeeyork |
Oh no, poor Tobi. I would bring him to the vet tomorrow. It could be an infection, could be buggies, or something else. Red and irritated and scratching mean something is definitely going on that is worth a vet visit. Sending Tobi well wishes. |
Yes def taking him to the vet tomorrow. Hate he has to suffer till tomorrow. Just trying to see if there was a home remedy to help with the itching. Thanks |

I don't know of anything that will help either. Poor Tobi...I am sure he will be fine once the vet sees him and prescribes something. |
You know, perhaps a warm compress might make him feel better tonight? |
hi , oscar was doing that too. although his ear was not red or anything i still took him to the vet. nothing there. he continued to scratch so i got some anti itch ear powder at the pet store. put a little in his ear , pulled a little ear hair out. so far he is good to go. i hope your baby feels better soon.. |
How do you pull out the ear hair? Thanks for the anti itch powder idea. May try that. He is on antibiotics right now so not sure what he could have. He has skin allergies 😒 |
hi, you're welcome. oh , well gently fold his ear back and push aside all the outside hair sprinkle just a very small amount of the ear powder then i just used my fingertips to pull the inside hair out. just pull the hairs from the center of the ear canal. |
Ok, do those inside hairs pull out easily? I will try anything to make my buddy feel better. Thanks again. |
Oh yeah, the hairs you want to pull are really soft and cottony. They don't grow way into the skin like the regular hair so they come out really easy with a little powder. I know it is a little scary the first time you do it. Just look into the center of his ear canal and you will see the hair if there is any.. |
He needs to go to the vet! They can help you with the ear hair. Keeping the ear canal free of hair after his ear infection is cleared up will help to prevent infections...it will do nothing for a current one! |
You should learn to do it yourself though. My vet does not do it. Since my dog does not go to a groomer i had to learn to do it myself.. |

The pup is scratching and has irritation in his ear. That is not just from hair. The OP seems to think...at least the way I have read this ... that she can do this instead of going to a vet. |

We pull the hair before we clean and medicate anyway. |
