Reverse Sneezing? Good Evening Everyone, So Manny started making this strange noise 2 days ago. It pretty much sounded like he was snorting/coughing or something. The first time we noticed this was in the morning; my boyfriend and I woke up to him making this noise.. and that's when we noticed that he had thrown up on the bed. We watched him closely that day, and he wasn't making that noise anymore, never threw up again and seemed perfectly fine. Last night he started making the same noise.. but it wasn't going away this time. We didn't know what it was, so we ended up taking him to the ER. The vet told us that his exam was normal, and that it was most likely a case of reverse sneezing.. since Manny has only thrown up that one time and is eating normally. I looked up videos on youtube regarding reverse sneezing, and all the videos I've seen.. it seems like this is indeed what Manny has. He doesn't appear to be in any pain and he still eats normally. However, I'm just really worried because when we tried to play fetch with him earlier.. he would have to stop running because he would be sneezing. We are keeping a close eye on him, just in case his symptoms were misdiagnosed. Does anyone know what triggers reverse sneezing? |
I have no idea what causes it-- sorry, I can't be of more help. But I will say that my female does this a lot. It seems to happen after a play session too, maybe it has to do with being out of breath? But my male hardly ever does this. When Ruby starts to have a bad spell, I lightly rub her throat, it seems to help a little bit. Hopefully, someone else will chime in with more info. |
I saw another thread on this subject early this morning where ladyjane posted a link explaining reverse sneezes... it should come up if you search in the box at the bottom of the page :) |
Peanut does it too. What helps when Peanut has an “attack” is I will rub his throat. I take my hand and go up and down on his throat. Seems to help him, it also seems to calm him down. I notice Peanut will have a reverse sneeze when he drinks water too fast or when he gets super excited. Nothing you can really do to prevent it. I noticed when I don’t go over to him and “help” he has it for a little longer than when I rub his throat. |
Mine will do it especially Chachi when he gets overly excited and we just encourage him to calm down |
Maybe you saw BabyFidgette's video on reverse sneezing. :) I put two up on You tube. |
I have a 2.6 yr old that does the same thing...I didnt know what it was called up until a few weeks ago and doing some research I found this site: Reverse Sneezing in Dogs: By: Dr. Dawn Ruben Reverse Sneezing in Dogs - Page 1 I found it really helpful =). However like you said just keep a close eye ! =) |
