Is this normal? I am starting to panic As many of you know my little 12 year old guy has a history of bladder stones. One month ago I found blood in his urine; vet did urinalysis; x ray; blood work. Everything came back fine. He treated him with antibiotic for infection. I took another urine sample in two days ago. No blood, no stones. Vet wants to test again in one month. I am keeping an eye on urine and catch it in a cup when I can. A few minutes ago I noticed that his urine was not as "yellow" as usual. It seemed ALMOST clear; just slightly yellow. Is this a good or bad sign? He has been on meds for bladder stones and pancreatits as well as special diet for the past six or seven years. Thanks |
WEll do you know if he has been drinking more? One way to monitor daily intake of water is to buy a bottle that dispenses water when the spigot is licked. The depth of the yellow color in urine is directly associated with the quantity of water consumed. The less water the deeper the color and the more the urine will have an odor. I make a habit to refill the water bottle every morning, I can tell then how much water Razzle has had over 24hr period. |
Yes, He drinks aprx 6-8 oz per day (on avg) some days a little less, some a little more...usually depending on whether it is a warm or cold day. He is on meds that make him drink water to decrease the chance of stones returning. I work during the week, but on the weekends I add a few extra drops of water to his dry food to increase the water consumption. The Vet told me that was a good thing to do. So, do you think the color (not quite clear, but not a deep yellow) of the urine means there is a problem, or just increased water consumption? thanks |
Clear/almost clear urine in a dog is a sign of a well hydrated dog! No need to worry, but I will say good job on your part for noticing any change like that, your a great Momma! |
Maybe just call the vet to be on the safe side but I would think less yellow urine would show less concentrate due to fluid intake. Still, any vet worth his salt won't mind a late night call if you're really scared. |

Thanks Once again I have to say THANKS! I seem to need alot of reassurance that I am doing the right thing for my boy. Since losing my husband it is really hard to make all of these decisions on my own. And this little guy is so very special. I don't know how I would have made it through these past months without him. You all are wonderful. You never make me feell like an idiot or make me feel like I have done the wrong thing. Thanks for your support! It means more than you will ever know! |
