Baby must have caught a one day stomach bug or something! Two nights ago at 2am she jumped off the bed. I thought she went to get a drink. Well after a bit I noticed she didn't come back onto the bed. She was hiding under the bed. That means she did something bad. So I searched the floor and sure enough (time to get graphic) a HUGH poop on my carpet. The poop on the bottom was solid and on top it was all diarrhea! So I took out the Bissell at 2am. Well, about 8 more times every two hours she'd jump off the bed or run towards the door to go out. She had urgent diarrhea! It started out a lot and mushy, then smaller stool and watery. Then just watery. Then finally it stopped. Other than diarrhea she wasn't showing any other signs of illness. So I fed her a tiny tiny bit of wet Evangers duck and sweet potato. I had no rice or chicken in the house. Well, the next poop was solid! I don't know what the heck happened! Could it have been the switch to Orijen? She was okay with it for a few days. Or do you think it was a little bug? :( |
Food changes can cause diarrhea or at the very least soft stools, they suggest going very slow on food changes, especially if yours has a sensitive stomach. For the first feeding, start with 3/4 old food, and 1/4 new food, if bowel movement looks normal, stay with that for the next few feedings, then 1/2 and 1/2 again checking bowel movements to make sure there is no diarrhea. Anytime it looks too soft add more of the old and less of the new to the next feeding. Next, you do 1/4 old and 3/4 new. Some people say they add a probiotic during the food change if your baby has a really sensitive tummy. |
I did 1/2 and 1/2 for three days and then about 3/4 Orijen 1/2 Evangers. Those three days stools were no change. Then all of a sudden bam! I know she didn't get into anything and I just can't see that slight extra food causing such urgent diarrhea. Also, Miss Baby has a tough tummy bc grandma likes to give her stuff she shouldn't have. But she hasn't been over grandmas in weeks. |

Any time I have switched foods with my dogs I start out 3/4 old 1/4 new,1/2 and 1/2, then 3/4 new and 1/4 old. It takes 4 to 6 weeks, but if there is a problem I know it and it isnt hard to get them back on their old food. I have two poodles that have REALLY sensitive tummys. They cannt eat fish of any kind, not even just as an Omega 3 oil. |
Once in awhile one of mine will get diarrhea out of the blue. I hope Baby continues to have normal poops! |
