What is wrong???
 

Can anyone help?
I have taken toby to two different vets and they cannot find anything wrong with him, he does not eat dog food wet or dry, and he has been like that sense we bought him one year ago. He only eats chicken and that's it but i know it's been too long and he needs his food for that proteins and every thing else, has this happen to anybody else and if so how can we fix that, by the way i have tried almost all kinds of dog food and treats

Well, I'd rather eat chicken then dog food too, Lol. Are you feeding him anything besides chicken ? veggies ? or doggy vits ? There are well balanced home cooked diets for dogs. If he will not eat the dog food that is fine as long as you make sure he's getting all he needs in a home cooked diet.

I agree, he is holding out for the chicken. Consult a canine nutritionist vet for a balanced diet. If he is eating only chicken, the protein is not being balanced with all important calcium, as well as other necessary nutrients. This is critical for your boy's health. I would have blood tests done now to check his liver and kidney functions.

blood test shows that everything is ok and healty, and yes some veggies he eats, and he is not eating dog food cause he is holding out for the chicken he will starve and not eat, he has been doing that sense he was little

Try cesar Susie doesnt eat any dog food besides that except that I had her on dry kibble before that but now her teeth are getting a bit bad as she is 14 and half years old now so I am afraid that her teeth will break biting dry kibble, she loves cesar though

I can relate a similar problem I had and how I resolved it but this may not work for you but perhaps worth a try though.

In my quest to be kind to one of my spaniels I started feeding Chicken and the spaniel decided this was a really good food. As he would wolf it down I stupidly thought he was hungry so gave him more.

Eventually he refused to eat any dog food at all just like yours.

After a time I would crush a little kibble to powder, just a very small amount, and coat the chicken with it.

My Spaniel would still wolf down the chicken disregarding the fact that he was eating the powder kibble as well.

After some time I increased the amount of powdered kibble and mixed it in the bowl with his chicken to get the taste all over the powder.

A short time and I stopped making the powder and just broke the kibble down to small bits and continued to do this getting the kibble bigger each week until eventually I was putting kibble in with his chicken and giving it a good mix to get the chicken taste all over it.

I then started reducing the amount of chicken very slowly over a few weeks but eventually I stopped giving him any at all.

Yes this took time but I had to pay the penalty for my mistake as any dog will tell you they prefer chicken to kibble and if we as the owner give him chicken then we must be prepared to pay the price.

I hope this helps you but it is offered as the method I used to rectify a situation not as advice as to how you should tackle you problem.

Smart dog! Is there any reason you don't want to feed him real food? Try cooking up the chicken then grind it along with some fresh carrots & green beans. I do this with red meat since mine are allergic to poultry and fish. There are lots of free recipes for pets on line.

well he doesn't like the cesar food, and the chicken he only likes it from popeyes not boiled here at home, the reason i wouldn't give him regular food is because the nutrients and proteins that dog food has for his health and coat

Bring him to my house for a week and I promise you he will be eating dog food. :) I have had many pups cross my threshold over the years and have never had one starve himself.

And.....if you decide that you want to do home cooking for him, I strongly suggest that you consult with a vet nutritionist....or find one online. There is one in our area in Houston and there is one in College Station. He needs to have a balanced diet and that means the appropriate volume and weight for his size and also the right supplements. Foods alone are not enough for him.

Now that's a picky eater! Only Popeyes chicken? Are you sure that's safe? It would have been ok if it was boiled chicken from home, but the problem is your don't know if the spices used can be harmful. Too much garlic and onion products can make a dog sick. I'd be very careful with feeding him fried chicken, even if it is just the meat. If he really, truly won't eat kibble, I would follow Maximo's advice. Have someone teach you how to balance (like a vet or nutritinist) the food and feed home cooked.

LJ even got my two two eat dog food 2000 miles or so away! You could always try to moisten the kibble a little bit with some warm water making like a "gravy". Sometimes this works.

My friend's bichon is the same way. He will not eat any kind of dog food. So they feed him chinese, italian etc. I told them to just leave the dog food down and when the dog gets really hungry, he will eat it. The dog has my friends well trained! I can only suggest to you that you leave out the dog food with a tiny, tiny bit of chicken in it and eventually feed with no chicken. Good luck!

ok i'll try that, and yeah i think it would be nice if i really could take him to you, wse live close by. and i never had this problem before, that chicken it's just the chicken not the skin, but lately he has been eating the purina chef michaels wet food but just some of them not all the flavors, he is really picky on that
