I will pray for your baby and I hope she makes it. |
I would really watch her because about a year and half ago I put Mac outside to potty and he was walking like he was drunk. i brought him inside and he started swaying back and forth then fell over and was limp i rushed him to the ER and the whole way there he laid on my lap limp, not moving and barely breathing. he ended up in the ER for 3 days because he was extremely dehydrated. they are so tiny so it doesnt take much to get them dehydrated. hope everything is fine :] |

Hey guys- first my daughter and I want to thank you for the outpouring of love and support you've given us. I hadn't mentioned this but baby Bella Dolce was a 14th birthday gif t for my daughter, Gracie who is dealing with Depression. Bella has only been with us a short time but has brought so much joy to our lives already. Gracie will be posting here tomorrow. she sends her love and hugs. Well, we got the baby home. She is still pooping green diarrhea, but with more mucus. Not eating, so force feeding her is a chore. She keeps her little lips locked so tightly- its amazing. That's the challenge- getting the food into her mouth. She won't drink water either so we use a syringe and pry her mouth open. Feedings seems to be so stressful to her. She tries to hide and avoid us once we've started to force feed her. Still not playful or responsive much at all right now. Vet prescribed Albon 2 x day. Carmen, I will pick up goats milk ASAP and a heating pad. We r using the snuggle puppy right now. I'm feeling like she should sleep in her bed in my room since I will be waking to feed her every 3 hours. But the only thing is that since she has diarrhea and is not potty trained, she gets up and just trots off to poop. Should I put pee pads all over the carpet in my room or just let her sleep in the bathroom? Needless to say, I am worried sick. I broke down crying at the vet today and I've been depressed most of the day. If only she would eat and drink. She has got to pull through. It is so painful to watch her feel this way. I do blame the breeder, but also my ignorance in not knowing Better. I wouldn't trade our baby bella and will do anything to save her. We need your continued prayers hugs sent to our sweet girl. Hugs and thanks... xoxoxo! |

Hugs and thanks... xoxoxo![/QUOTE] Good morning! Prayers and hugs to you all from our home...:) Firstly, none of this is your fault - how on earth were you to know? You are doing everything within your power to make things better, and God bless you for that. Of course you're weepy - you're worried out of your mind, probably exhausted - and wondering what the heck's going to happen next :) I personally would have her sleep in my bedroom. But of course you have to be practical! I would put her bed into either a crate or an x-pen. I would line the rest of the crate with newspaper and pee pads and place all that in my bedroom. I think it will be far more comforting - for both of you - to be within sight/sound of one another. You'll probably sleep better too, knowing that she's within touching distance :) Good luck, and hugs from Harry + I x |
Hun don't be depressed. It would have been a different story is you hadn't been such a good Momma and not rushed her to the vet, but you did. And now you're taking every step to make this little one better. Like Carmen said, get the goats milk and water it down 50/50. I have a feeling that'll be very inticing to the little one. Today is a new day and every day that you help her, she'll get stronger. Prayers that she gets better, and prayers for your healing as well. If you need to cry, cry. Sometimes just holding your pup in your arms and softly crying is the best medicine for sad soul. *hugs* |
You are doing a great job, and doing everything in your power to nurse her back to strength...and now we all just wait, until our prayers kick in. I agree with the goat's milk, sleeping in your room in an x-pen (or gated area), and frequent feedings. Maybe with the goat's milk you could get a nursing bottle (vs. a syringe), and her sucking instinct will take over? Also, to keep her warm and relaxed (and assuming you are home during the day) could you look into some sort of carrier to strap her to your chest, like a baby carrier? This would allow for warmth, security, bonding, and you being able to watch her like a hawk. Praying hard for baby Bella's recovery. |
sorry to hear of your little Bella. Sounds like you are doing a everything you can for her....I'm sure it's alot of work but will be rewarding in the end. Have you spoken with the breeder you bought her from? Maybe she will take her back until she is older... |

So sorry to hear that Bella is sick? Hugs and prayers going your way. I hope she starts improving soon. (((((((((hugs$)))))))))) |
Keep up the good work. Sending more good wishes and a prayer your way!! Have you considered bottle feeding her? It may seem a step back at this age, but anything to get her eating would be worth the try at this point. There are some good puppy supplement recipes available on line or even on YT if you ask. |

I know this may sound a little crazy, but would your animal hospital consider admitting her and tube feeding her until she gained some weight and some strength?? I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I know our specialty animal hospital here is staffed 24hrs a day. Just a thought if you cannot get her to eat at all. Best of luck to you and your daughter....saying prayers for all three of you that Bella improves and thrives. |
How is baby Bella doing this eve ? |
Have you tried an expen to keep Bella in your room? You can line the floor with piddle pads of "her room" you create with the expen. She'll be confined, safe, and close to you for feedings. |
Good evening everyone, Thanks as always for your concern for our sweet Baby bella. Today, I've fed Bella every 3 hours around the clock. She is still not eating voluntarily. Prying that ring mouth open is a chore! I found the goats milk and she loves it!! We were amazed that she actually drank the milk on her own after I fed her!! She's had two doses of the goats milk. Her next feeding is in 20 minutes. She's still on both antibiotics- albon snd metrozonadol (sp). Those of you who've had experience with Coccidia, can you tell me how long before you saw improvements in behavior once the antibiotics started? The vet says she can put her back on IV fluids if we choose or we can keep caring for her at home. Bella is still pooping diarrhea, today with blood in the stool. No clots or bright red blood. This is her fourth day with diarrhea. I'm sure her little bottom is sore. How often should I give her the goats milk? I want this baby to feel better soon. I see other healthy puppies and it just breaks my heart for Bella. :( I'm hanging in there I suppose... The tears seem to keep coming. |
thank you for caring, is going to take about 10 days before the diarreah clears up, the most important thing is to keep her hydrated and making sure she is eating and drinking. and VERY important that you must keep up with her meds, the Albon should started clearing her up already, you have to just keep at it she will show improvement soon, glad she is liking the goats milk, now try mixing it with the food the vet gave you. also, buy a bottle of Unflavored Pedialyte and give her at least 1/4 of a cup a day that will keep her electrolites up.. My best friend had a coccidia puppy a few years ago and that is what we did and she got better in a couple of weeks.. Hope this helps.. |
Hi Carmen! I picked up strawberry pedialyte but will get unflavored tomorrow and work on getting that in her. I'll also start mixing the goats milk into her food. I'd been heating the goats milk- is that ok? Tonight she just pooped a brown poop that actually looks like poop for first time!!!! Yay!! It's not green anymore. Still a bit bloody. I can't wait until she gets her appetite back and actually wants/enjoys her food. Thank you for your encouragement! Hugs from Baby Bella, mommy and Gracie! |
In no way do I claim to know anything about the illness this pup is suffering with so please keep that in mind as you read further. I have wondered about giving the pup milk? I realize she would normally still be nursing from her Mother at this young age but with human children there are times when thier digestive system needs a break even from their Mother's milk. Sometimes human children are put on clear fluids for a time because their intestinal flora is all messed up from an illness and so to get the bowels to settle down they are given no solid food and no milk for a couple of days. Would something like that be worth discussing with the Vet or is this a completely different senario? The other thing that I wanted to mention is that a couple of years ago our big pup got terribly ill and had watery stool etc. After the visit to the Vet I did some major reading about how to help his loose watery stool. He is a greyhound/deerhound and their digestive systems can sometimes be very touchy and I didn't want to risk a bunch of drugs if we could at all avoid it because they can also be sensitive to drugs. I came across a bunch of information about using rice water to help with watery stool and to help settle the digestive system and provide nutrition. Apparently it works really well for humans too. I can't remember the exact process and amounts but I'm sure a quick internet search would bring up the info quite easily. Basically you cook a bunch of rice in more water than normal and then drain off all the water and solely feed that for a couple of days. It worked very well in our situation but I have no idea if using rice water is advisable in this instance and I would deffinitely discuss things with the Vet before considering something like this. Again please keep in mind I am simply asking and not suggesting anything. These are just a couple of things that crossed my mind as I read through the posts and so I thought I would bring them up in case something like this might help. I wish you well as you take care of your little pup and hope she gets better. |
Please keep on top of this & if she doesn't seem 100% by the time she's done with All her meds then get her back to the vet ASAP as coccidia can kill your dog if it gets out of control. It is not common but can happen. If she does not respond to this round of med then I would insist they keep her & put her on IV antibiotics. My uncle had a tiny Chi pup who had coccidia & the vet kept her for a few days then sent her home with the meds that she would throw up Every time they gave them to her. She spent a total of 3 wks out of 5 wks in the hospital & each time they would keep her for 2 to 4 days & sent her home. They should have never sent her home as long as she could not keep her food or meds down. The coccidia got out of control & she died as it went to her liver kidneys & brain. She should have been put on IV antibiotics from the very beginning as she had a severe case from the beginning. |

It would probably be good to get her on some Pro-Biotic as well. |
