Question about Albon The vet has given me Albon to give to Bella for a possible intestinal infection (not coccidia, that was negative). Does anyone have experiences with using this Albon on a 2 lb, 6 ounce, 16 week old puppy? (or puppy of similar size and weight and age)? How did they handle it? Any side effects? Complications? ..etc. Thank you. |
Teddy has taken this drug as an adult. From why I remember, he didn't have any issues with it and it cleared up his diarrhea. |
Thank you, Cathy. I'm glad it helped little Teddy. I gave Bella her first dose last night...no adverse reactions (that are noticeable anyway) thus far. |
My mom's little Biewer girl has taken this for diarrhea also. I know it has always helped her. |
I have used Albon for years and keep some around..it seems to taste very good and doggies love it. most vets prescribe this to be given for 10 days...1 cc the first day 1/2cc give for 9 days once a day..i have never seen any side effects from it |
Yes that's her dosage...1/2 cc for 10 days, didn't say anything about 1 cc the first day. I doubt that will make much difference though. It smells like liquid candy and looks like...melted vanilla ice cream. My husband said, "her breath smells good what did she get into and can I have some?" lol! |

LOL better watch DH ;) it does smell so good and easy to give cause they like it |
my dear little pixie was 4.5 months old and 2 pounds exactly when i adopted her. the day after her adoption we took her to our vet and she did have coccidia, and was prescribed albon. she was a little older but about the same size and tolerated the meds very well with no ill effects. my older baby girl zowi also had to take it because coccidia is contageous and she also did very well on it with no bad side effects. pixie had a recheck that was negative for coccidia and never had any furthur issues. i'm sure your pup will do just fine on it and be feeling better in no time. this med is very commonly prescribed. hoping your little one is all better in no time!!! |
yes, Albon is safe to use in puppies.. I always give my puppies a dose before they go home. hugs |
My dwarf bunny,Mary, was on it after she had abdominal surgery. she had no issues at all with it. It worked very well. Good luck:) |
Thank you so much all, you put my mind at ease. The only problem I'm having now is that she's never had anything other than her puppy ice cream, kibble and organic (kinda boring) treats. I introduced this to her and now she thinks it's the best thing since peanut butter. Trying to make a puppy understand that it's medicine and not a treat is like trying to make Godzilla understand why he can't walk in the street. Thank you again for your valued (and valuable) input!:) |
