Limping I'm not sure if I should put this here or not. Callie has been doing great had gone over a week with no limping and no holding her leg up well she is limping pretty decently. I took her for her walk this morning and she seemed a little stiff but tonight I just did not feel it was right to walk her I started and her leg was shaking some and she was limping. She did have pt yesterday and they walked her for what seemed like a long time in the water but right afterwords she was ok. It will 8 weeks from her surgery on the 16th. Could she just be sore from yesterday or could something have gone wrong in her knee? Just worrying like crazy because everything seemed to be going so well and now she limping. |
I don't know. It is probably weak. Have you considered calling the dr and asking them about it tomorrow morning? I understand worrying about it. That is only natural. |
I'm not sure of all the past details but i'm assuming she had LP surgery? Do you know which method they used to fix her knee? If it was the fishing wire method, and she had this done on November 16 then she should be just about healed now at 7 weeks and 2 days. Has she jumped on or off anything lately? ran up or down stairs? fallen or slipped? rough play session? It may be bothering her because of PT yesterday or if its really cold today that could be bothering it as well. Before the limp was she using her leg normally or she is still toe-touching or lightly putting it down? It may be nothing to worry about if she's just tired from yesterday or effected by the weather but then again it could be something. If I were you I'd crate her for the rest of the night so she rests that leg and then she how she is in the morning. If its still bothering her then I'd take her in for a recheck to make sure the surgery site is ok. |

They did LP surgery and they fixed her ACL that had a partial tear. Im not really sure what method he used. She has not jumped at all I am crazy careful to make sure she hasn't. She hasn't been up or down any stairs either. It was actually 60 degrees today (its crazy its January lol). She was doing great on her leg walking normal on it for over a week until today. I have been keeping her in her pen pretty much all of the time except for the walks and to go out to go potty so hopefully its just sore because of pt I really don't know when else she could have done anything to it that's why I am being such a worry wort. I will call the Orthopedic surgeons office tomorrow morning is shes still limping. |

I used to work for an orthopedic surgeon and did so many LP/ACL discharges that i could probably recite the instructions right now, but I won't. LOL Just by reading what you've been doing I'm pretty sure you got a similar speech to the one my surgeon gives. i bet she's just sore from the PT. Best thing to do right now is what you're already doing. Keep an eye on her and call the surgeon if it gets worse or doesn't improve by morning. Good luck. hopefully she'll feel better tomorrow. |

Every pup I have had that had any type of ortho surgery limped off and on for some time afterwards. I am sure she is fine...sounds like you are doing all the right things; but good to put a call into the surgeon anyway. |
Keeping Callie in our thoughts. You've gotten some good advice. It sounds like Callie may have had a big day at pt. She's in very good hands. :) |
Thanks everyone. Callie is doing really good this morning no limp on our walk although I cut it short so as not to push her to much she was also very excited to go for the walk. I'm going to keep her in her pen today except for potty breaks and then her walk tonight I might cut short too. I was wondering if shes always gonna limp a little after walking a lot or if its just something that will be like that for the first year? We go to the Orthopedic surgeon on the 19th so I will probably ask him then too. |
I believe in the one year mark. :) That is what the ortho surgeon I use has told me. |
