Pet First Aide Kit I would really appreciate it if some of you who have bred and raised Yorkies and other dogs for years would make a list of the pet first-aide supplies that you keep in your house. I have read many of the posts about sick and injuried animals and see some of the same products mentioned over and over again (with proper dosages), but have never kept a list. I am the first one in the world to take my pets to a vet if they are sick or injuried --- but sometimes things happen in the evening or in the middle of the night and you need to do something right away or need to do something before you can get to the vet. Examples of the types of things I am wondering about are - treating minor cuts and abrasions - washing eyes out - inducing vomiting - forcing fluids - allergic reactions ----- more or less the same types of supplies you might find in a human-first-aide kit. Nothing harmful or dangerous - When different products are mentioned - what they are for and how much is used. Really would appreciate your responses or ideas. Thanks a lot --- Carol Jean PS -- I keep reading about all these pet emergencies and would certainly feel more comfortable if I had at least some things in my house in case of an emergency. Thanks again! |
I'm not getting much help here. Maybe some of you can mention only one or two things you keep around the house in case your dog gets sick, has an upset stomach, etc. I have read so many posts mentioning (is it NutriCal?) and things like that. I would really like to know some of the things I should have around - Thanks again - Carol Jean |
Here is one you can buy from YTNR: Pet First Aid Kit - 29.00 Large 44 Piece Pet First Aid Kit with all the items you need for your pet's common injuries. Contains thermometer, bandages, wound care items, antiseptic, tweezers, gloves, peroxide, dog leash, pet first aid guide, and more. Organizers/wall mountable case. http://www.yorkierescue.com/storelist.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Having a first aid kit is a great idea, but also knowing exactly what to do with the "stuff" in it is even more important. A few things that I always keep are: hydrogen peroxide, liquid children's cherry-flavored benedryl, gauze, stretchable surgical tape, styptic powder, first-aid sprays that are both antiseptic and anesthetic, alcohol, pepto bizmol, as well as hydrocortisone spray and cream. I have a drawer of stuff that is just for my doggies that I've kept replinished for years. I can't even remember everything in there at the time, but I do have a first aid book that I've had for years in there, too. Hope this helps some. |
Thank you so much - Carol Jean |
