Been there before girl. Prayers to you and Gizmo. Hoping you find out something soon. Keep us updated. |
Sending prayers for Gizmo now:hands: Hope it's nothing serious! |
We just got home from the vet. We ended up going to a different one then one he normally goes to. I guess just to get a second opinion because honestly, we weren't getting anywhere. And it felt like they weren't really listening to me regarding his symptoms. Anywho I went there, and Gizmo weighed 5.2 (porker gained weight). Meanwhile, I checked to see if his medical records were faxed over because when I called my old vet, they gave me a real hard time with going to another vet for a second opinion. But they were faxed and Gizmo and I were ushered into a nice little room that was alot more up-to-date then my old vet. The vet came in, little squirrely looking dude, and got all excited because he has a Yorkie and he just loved Gizmo. Well, the Giardia tests came back negative and he was very suprised that my old vet hadn't ran three tests. One was the cortisol (don't mind the SP) test, a GI test and there's another one but I'll have to grab the estimate out in my car. The estimate was $495.00 which made me almost swallow my tongue, but I'd do anything to help Gizmo. When I was about to make my decision, the doctor recommended "Well, why don't we try putting him on an allergy free food, and go from there? Maybe it's allergy based and if it is, we won't have to waste $495.00." He asked me what the holistic vet believe Gizmo was allergic to (because he seemed to have less flare ups with their system) and ended up sending us home with RC Hypo allergic Rabbit and potato formula. No corn, chicken, or grains. I was so interesting to watch him bop back and forth between foods and read the label to decide what was best. Needless to say, Gizmo gobbled it up (along with the doggy Pepcid and a few other meds the doc gave me) and is prancing around the house. The vet also noticed that Gizmo was shedding more then normal which is making him lean towards more of an allergy then functioning issue. I loved the doctor, he listened took what I had to say into consideration, and needless to say we'll be making him out primary vet. We got on the topic of dog food, but this post is long enough. :p |
I'm glad Gizmo likes his new food! Hopefully he's on the mend and will recover quickly! It's great that your new vet is a Yorkie lover and took the time to select a different food. Maybe this will solve Gizmo's problems once and for all! |
So glad Gizmo got a new vet maybe he can cure him...glad he is feeling better |

Prayers Sending prayers!!! |
Hey so glad to hear you found a vet you feel comfortable with! That is so important!! Hang in there and hopefully you will figure out what is going on with the little guy! And if you do have to home cook for him, well let me just say it really isn't that bad at all. I was so worried about it being extra expensive and taking up a lot of my time. But really it is not so bad. :) And Rosie loves it! She is doing so much better on it. Hopefully you will be able to resolve the issue without having to do much more. Good luck to you and hugs to Gizmo! |
A good vet can make all the difference in the world!!! I remember when I ended up going to a different vet than the one Jax went to as a puppy because he was limping and another vet took him in faster and I was sooo thrilled to have found them. The difference was huge but I never would have known, or switched, if something hadn't come up making me go somewhere else. So sorry Giz is going through tummy troubles again tho! :( So odd you say that about the "shedding" - one thing I noticed while Jackson was on grain inclusive foods from July-November was more hair coming out... there would be a couple here and there on my hands while giving him a bath, or I could kind of "pull" some out easier than usual, now that he\'s back on grainfree on his 2nd bag, the problem has completely gone away, and the shine is back in his coat, his muscle definition is more noticeable to me. It\'s so much trial and error but this is what I have noticed with my own dog. I think the RC Rabbit & Potato is a nice food, if it wasn\'t so darn expensive, I\'d so consider feeding it, though Jax does not have tummy issues or as BAD of allergy issues as Gizmo has been suffering thru :( and he can basically eat any kibble with at least good results, with little things here and there that I notice. I am so glad he\'s feeling better tho!! What a way to spend Christmas! Whew :( |
So glad you liked the new vet, and praying for gizmo to have a speedy recovery. |
