Please help me Hi, I got my Yorkie 4 days ago. When I got him, he was healthy and active but all of a sudden he got lethargic and he can barely walk. He does not want to eat but he drinks water. I brought him to the vet awhile ago and the vet prescribed antibiotics and vitamins and some water-soluble glucose. After a while he started eating again (He ate the a/d prescription dog food) and he started drinking water. I have noticed that his stool is kinda watery. Is it because of the change in diet? He can also walk already but he isn't that active yet. What seems to be the problem? I'm worried :( Its already 6AM here in our country and I can't sleep because I am too worried about my baby. I hope I can make him feel better :( Thank you. |
I would call my vet and give him this information. Since the vet has seen him he might be able to tell you if the change in his stool could be related to the change in food. Hoping your baby feels better soon. |
I'm sorry your baby is sick. What diagnosis did the vet give you? What is the reason for the antibiotics? |
They gave him antibiotics because of "viral infection" but it seems like it doesnt help :( |
Antibiotics take time to work, much more than a few hours or even a couple of days. Continue to monitor your pup's gums. They should be pink and wet, not sticky or pale or white. Allow your pup to rest. Over-handling a healthy pup can lead to hypoglycemia. A sick pup needs even more rest. If he worsens in any way, call the vet immediately or get to an emergency clinic. How old is he and how much does he weigh? |
Antibiotics do not work for "VIRAL" infections. They are for "BACTERIAL" infections. I would go to another vet. I hope your puppy feels better soon. |
Keeping your little furbaby in my prayers. |
I agree, antibiotics are for bacterial infections. I would try and find another vet and if necessary, try an emergency clinic if you do not have one in mind. These guys can change quickly, you do not want him to get to a point that he's in a dire state. good luck and let us know how he's doing. |
Sad news everyone. :( I brought him to another vet this afternoon but it was already too late. The vet said that he had "Canine Distemper". I feel so sad because he is my 1st yorkie and I took care of him so much...... its already dec 24, 5pm here in our country... what a way to "celebrate" christmas... it hurts so bad. :( thank you for all of the prayers. I hope God has a better plan for me. I will miss my baby Coco. :'c |

I am so sorry for your loss of your precious puppy. Please make the breeder aware that this disease may be running through her litter. So sad. |
My heart goes out to you, in the loss of your wee puppy. So very sad. And as Ringo suggested please do let the breeder know. She/he really needs to know. |

I am so sorry. :( |
Puppies from three to six months old are particularly susceptible.[9] CDV spreads through aerosol droplets and through contact with infected bodily fluids including nasal and ocular secretions, feces, and urine 6–22 days after exposure. It can also be spread by food and water contaminated with these fluids.[10][11] The time between infection and disease is 14 to 18 days, although there can be a fever from three to six days postinfection.[12] According to this information you puppy may have had this when you got her. You did your best for her. So glad that you were there for her. |
