Once a Month Urinary Tract Infections Bella has had a urinary tract infection about once a month. It seems that as soon as she gets off the medicine, she is alright for about 2 weeks to a month and then she has another one. She had a small stone a while back but my vet said that it was very little and we would just wait to see if it passed. Since then, Bella has had 2 urinary tract infections. She has another one now, and it breaks my heart to see her whine. I think her private parts even look a little more red than usual, so I think she is definitely infected. I am currently out of town, and will be until Thursday night. I am not sure if I should take her to a vet where I am or if there is something I should do in the mean time. She has been on special food for UTI's and nothing seems to be working. Any help would be incredible! Thank you all so much in advance. |
If you have ever had a urinary track infection, you would know just how horribly painful this is and treatment should start ASAP, so my suggestion is not to wait another minute. Get her to a Vet. so she can start meds. and get some fast relief. I would also suggest you take her to a holistic Vet. and see what diet you can start her on. Food plays a major roll in health. |
I would not wait to take her to see a dogtor. Urinary tract infections are very painful. If left go, they can also go into the kidneys and cause kidney infections. She needs antibiotics ASAP. |
You deff need to take her to the vet ASAP as UTI's toxins spread quickly through out the body & they are very painful. Did the vet tell you what kind of stones she is getting ? she may need to have her liver bile acids checked. Also her diet may need to be changed. |
Take her in-as a person with a UTI issue myself (chronic acute UTI's due to kidney issue) I can empathize with her discuss not only a cranberry supplement but a regular antibiotic treatment may unfortunately be needed. I was disgusted to learn my treatment was first tested on dogs-hopefully it was useful to them (I often wonder though poor lab dogs). What is the special food she is being given? |
Bile Acids Test to determine liver function.... dogs with liver issues tend to have frequent, recurring UTIs. |
how is little bella doing? getting utis this frequent more than likely means that something is going on... maybe she should have an ultrasound to recheck that stone? my 10 year old zowi has had 2 utis and both times she would get my attention and potty in the house right in front of me, this was her way of letting me know something was wrong. after a couple days of meds she stopped doing that so i knew she was getting better. i am not in any way saying that this is what is wrong with your baby, zowi's utis led us to discovering her liver is enlarged and she eventually was diagnosed with atypical cushing's disease. dogs with cushing's often have recurring utis. 1st thing our vet checked for and said the most common cause of utis is from kidney/bladder stones. zowi had an ultrasound and did not have any stones. hoping your little bella is getting some meds and feeling much much better!!! |
Mya has frequent UTI's as well... No stones, thankfully, but the infection just keeps coming back. She is currently on cranberry relief, and so far, so good. It's been about 3 months since her last infection. Might be worth looking in to. |
