What's wrong with Cosmo Something is wrong with Cosmo. Tonight I went to pick him up and he yelped at me. He is hiding and After we pick him up and pet him he is fine no yelping. He is shaking and his nose is running. It is not cold in our house so I dont know what is wrong with him. I called the vet and she told me to give him some asprin and he should be fine. I did that but he is shaking and I don't know what hppened, do you guys have any advice. I am sooo worried. |
I'm so sorry, Staci. Whispersmom is on here. Maybe she'll see this. |
I'm sorry little Cosmo is not feeling well! Is he eating and drinking ok??? A few weeks ago Bentley would yelp when we picked him up but otherwise he was fine. We thought maybe he hurt himself playing and had a sore or tender area...could that possibly have happened to Cosmo??? At the vet when Charlie fell and hurt his leg and was yelping, the vet set him on the table on all fours and took each leg and gently just bent each one at the joint and moved it forward and back, to see if he acted like he was in pain. Maybe you could feel around on Cosmo and see if he has any sore spots? |
Poor Cosmo!!!!! Was anyone or dog around him with out you? I hate it when my vet dimisses me like that, " oh, give him an asprin and he'll be fine." I what them to act like the world is coming to an end and Lily is the only dog in the world when I call. (JK) Whatever happened, I hope he recovers quickly!!!!!!!!!!! Keep us posted!! |
Is he eating and drinking normal? He's not having a hypoglcemic episode is he. Have you given him some nutrical or Karo syrup just to be sure? I hope he's feeling better soon |
He is just laying around looking sad. He is in his kennel when I am gone. My bf said Cosmo and Astro got in a little fight but they always growl and chase each other. He dranka nd he ate just a little. Once we hold him we pet him and tried to see if he was in pain but he never yelped it is soo weird. I hope he is okay. I am worried. |
Is he coughing? Have a fever? Cough? Loss of appetite? vomiting? diarrhea? constipated? limping?acting as if he does not want to move by himself? seems to hurt more one place than another? any swelling ANYPLACE? eyes look bright and follow you around when you walk? respond to his name? Gums good and pink? White? IF several of these things are YES, I would say go to the vet ASAP. If your baby has just pulled a muscle or hurt himself, he will continue to favor the area that is sore. ONE THING I HAVE FOUND IN MY YORKIES...if my husband keeps using his sad-sounding voice my dogs respond as if they are really sick. So, do not act upset or nervous when dealing with your baby. Just hold and snuggle him and make sur he gets lots of fluids with his baby aspirin. Feed him almost anythinghe will eat. We always say rice and chicken but what if he does not like that under usual circumstances..then he ain't gonna eat it now. Yogurt is good! broth is good; ice chips are great. Haveyou checked his temp? Too high OR too low are both indicative of problems. If he were mine, he would be sleeping with me tonight and I would be at the vet's door when he comes in tomorrow. If he is worse-seizures or unconscious- head for the ER.. But, try to remain calm and make sure there are no upsetting circumstances around. I so hope he is on the mend already. BTW, the normal temp for a Yorkie can be from 101 to 102+. Lethargy will lower it. Seizures and activity will raise it. I get troubled when mine get about 103....If you take him to the vet, be sure to remember the last time you gave aspirin. It can mask a fever if you have given it in the past 1-3 hours.. Take care, best of luck and God bless.. |
Poor baby I hope you figure out whats wrong with him soon. |
WOW!!! I'm gonna print out what whispersmom just wrote and keep it on hand!!! Great info!! Please post an update on Cosmo and how he is progressing :) |

One thing that is pretty funny about the above statement! I have a girl who is daddy's baby all the way. She is very active and sometimes does pull a muscle....usually a front leg. She limps sometimes for a short while! Well after a few days.....sympathy will alert her to her past injury....and she will immediately start limping.....hobbling on three legs holding up that front leg.....only problem is she is favoring the WRONG leg.....She holds her good leg up and hobbles around....we laugh and she hobbles some more. She eventually forgets....but it's pretty funny. but yes sympathy and/or sad voices does seem to affect them. I know this isn't much help.....just something to think about....but probably not very likely. d |
:yeahthat: she would make a good vet. LOL I hope he is ok. Buckeye has yelped a couple of time when i picked him up too. He gets over it soon. I worried about it at the time but it all passed with no problems soon after. kind of like he had a sore spot. |
He seems to be okay today He went to the vet anyway to get his hair cut so i am having them check him over. I go to pick him up in a few hours and I will tell you what they say. Thanks for all your replies there is really great info here that I am going to save on my computer, Thanks. Maybe he just had an upset tummy or something, poor guy. |
I hope little Cosmo is going to be ok - Please let us know what your vet says ? Sending best wishes to you Rini - that was outstanding to read and a good thing to have as check points when we think our yorkies are ill - I saved it too YorkyKids...that is just way too priceless - they do act worse if we use the sympathy voice don't they ? |
