Oh no, this is dreadful news, I am so very sorry you lost your Toby. My heat just breaks for you. There is nothing I can say that will ease your pain at the moment, but at least you can take comfort from the fact that he went peacefully and without pain. I really am so sorry. RIP Toby. |
prayers are coming your way |

I am so very sorry for your loss. Rest in peace lil Toby. |
I am so very sorry for your loss of Toby. I know your heart is heavy and I'm so sorry. Rest in peace, little one. |
It's not over yet Thankyou everyone... But I'm heading up to the vets now with kuki, who has bloody poo, and poppet is on meds for it already (she had a tiny bit of diarrhoea, so I took her in yesterday, and she had a high temp). Thinking back on it, last we'd when I had poppet at class, there was a lab who pooped in the hall, and it was runny... If I find out he passed it to poppet for it to spread to my others, heads will roll when I see him again (assuming his dog is alright of course). This is just hitting them so suddenly (especially if it was picked up on wed)- I only noticed kuki when I was cleaning the clingons off her bum, but they haven't been acting Any different! |
Oh Bellemarie - this is just horrible! Can you call the place you had poppet and class and see if they can contact the Lab's owner to see if he is sick? Best of wishes for your babies! |

Kuki Does have it as well- her temp was very high, so she got metacam, synlulox and cerenia (I think) injections tonight. I may as well just move into the vets; she has to go back for another jab and temp check in the morning, and to be sent home with tabs. the trainer is going to let everyone know at class tomorrow what to look out for (cuz it must be a fast and hard working strain). Ever just wish a week would simply go away and never come back; cuz I'm hating this one. |
I had this happen to my dogs I lost my little Yorkie/Maltese Rusty like this on 9/19/11. It came on so fast and by the time I got him to the vet, it was too late, he passed away just 3 hours later. :( It wasn't even 24 hours of him being sick. Then, within less than a week, two of my other dogs got it. My vet said that she didn't know what caused this with Rusty and that we will probably never know. My other two dogs recovered quickly on antibiotics and steroids. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for your other dog. |

:icon5: Did the vet say exactly what was wrong and what might have caused this? |
I am praying for Kuki to get well. How scary is this to come on so quickly? Please keep us updated on how she is when you are able. |
what an awful time you are having and i'm so sorry to hear it all. RIP Toby and so sorry for the loss. Fight hard little Poppie and Kuki. You guys can get through this and beat this together. Praying hard for all of you. |

It is such a fast acting strain my vet seems pretty scared of it- I think he'd assumed I'd missed something when he 1st saw Toby, but now he can't understand how it can progress so fast- it usually takes a fair while to take hold apparently. once I told the trainer how fast and hard it hit he is going to let Everyone know it could be going about (and make note of any regulars that don't show up tomorrow to call and check on them. When I was in the vets with kuki (well, sitting waiting to bring her in from the car) another yorkie was waiting to be seen... He was a longer haired Toby looking right at me, I started crying at this poor womans dog, but when I came out with kuk I assume she'd overheard the vet talking and she Got why, cuz she looked quite upset. Even yorkies we don't know can still seem to manage to make us cry... Pop is curled up at my feet and kuk is lying on my pillow, and kitty's beside me (so far with no temp or symptoms) so seem happy enough- I managed to get them to eat ok tonight, so with any luck we caught it on the very early stages with the girls... And now I have to try and quarantine my backyard from them (still in grass) until spring when I'm getting it concreted- easier to bleach down! Sorry everyone, I'm just ranting now. But everyone needs to promise me one thing, and make friends and family with yorkies promise to- that you will Never say 'it's just a tummy bug'. get them to the vet right there and then; I'd rather vets worldwide be sick of seeing yorkies than this happen to anyone else. Heading to bed for :aimeeyork cuddles. |
gastroenteritis doesn't really describe the virus or bacteria that's just a general term for stomach upset. i wish you knew what the actual disease or illness was from. maybe it's just an unknown cause or unknown bug. either way praying for the pups to get better. |
i'm sorry if that sounded rude. i didn't mean it to sound so emotionless. i am really really hurting for you over Toby and praying for healing for the other pups. i really hope you guys find out if it's going around your area and what exactly the strain is because it sounds horrible and i sure hope it can be figured out and treated before more pups get sick or worse :( |
That\'s why I should proof read! It was supposed to read \'just that it\'s...\' now that I\'ve been told \'it\'s been going around\' I\'m going to see if he can narrow it down when I take kuki back tomorrow- but asking about the strain wasn\'t top of my list. Don\'t worry, I knew where you were coming from... And hopefully if I can find the cause, then Toby can have helped save other babies- since people can be told what to watch for, and vets know what to treat for... I\'ve already told the dog warden I\'ll let him know if I find out more about it. |
Thanks for keeping us updated. Again, so sorry for your loss :( |
So very sorry for your loss. RIP dear Toby |
this just sounds so terrible. my heart hurts for your community if it does spread to lots of other dogs. i hope they discover what it is for sure and other dogs can be protected or treated easier. poor pups. RIP Toby, still crying for you little guy. Get better soon Poppi and Kuki. we hope you get this nasty thing beat and feel better soon. |
