Allergic reaction? PLEASE HELP! I think my Yorkie Lucy is having an allergic reaction We got her rabies shots on November 4th Today she's been vomiting and every time she eats something she just vomits it back up and now her right eye is swelling and her right side of her bum is where she got her shots and I realized that it's a bit swollen. I don't know what else to do. My dad is pretty much looped off too much wine and my aunt is a really heavy sleep. All I have is my eighteen year old sister but we both can't drive since I'm fifteen and she doesn't have her licenses. PLEASE if you've ever gone through this before PLEASE I'm begging tell me what to do I've been crying for hours since I just don't know what else to do. Again please!!!:( |
Can't diagnose online. Call your vet and get his/her expert opinion about what to do for your baby. It seems very late for your dog to be having an allergic reaction so best check with the vet. |

This pup needs to go to the vet. The symptoms you describe could be life threatening & I would Not put it off till tomorrow. Is there someone you could call to take you to an emergency clinic ? |
UPDATE It is now 3:18AM and 5 minutes ago she had diarrhea, it had some blood it I'm just hoping and praying that she'll be okay I'll see is my dad will take us to the vet later to get her checked up on Hopefully all is well for Lucy lu Please keep her in your prays tonight I'm gonna try and get some much needed sleep. Sincerely, Mariah |
I'm so sorry your pup is so ill. She really needs some medical attention asap.......IF it is related to the vaccine this is some of the symptoms you might see... Immediately or up to 3 days after the shot: Vomiting Facial swelling Fever or lethargy Circulatory shock Loss of consciousness Death Up to six weeks after the shot: Fibrosarcomas (cancer) at the injection site Seizures and Epilepsy Allergies Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA) Autoimmune diseases, including organ disease, allergies and skin problems Chronic digestive problems Muscle weakness, especially lack of hind end coordination Chronic digestive disorders Skin diseases Disease the vaccine was made to prevent Myocarditis Post Vaccinal Encephalitis or polyneuritis Behavior problems: aggression, destructive behaviors, separation anxiety and odd obsessive behaviors (like tail chasing and paw licking) Report any reactions you believe might be linked to any shot to your vet immediately. Make sure it goes in your dog's file and get a copy. You may someday need to apply for a vaccination exemption. If your dog vomits, has the runs repeatedly, itches all over, can't breathe, her face swells or legs swell up or if she collapse go to the vet asap. Your vet will probably administer a steroid shot that may save her life but may also give her lifelong steroid related immune problems. Having said this, it may not be related to the vaccine. Without a proper diagnosis this pup sounds to be in trouble with the added symptom of the diarrhea.....I hope your pup gets the help it needs and doesn't have to suffer from lack of basic care.... |
Has she continued to swell? If not, then it may not be an allergic reaction at all. Ingesting something toxic is possible, but stomach issues are also possible including obstruction. This is an emergency and she does need to be seen immediately. |
UPDATE It's now 8:31AM About probably 30 minutes ago she vomited and it had like blood specks in it and is having diarrhea with blood in it now. Me and my sister are waiting for our friend to come by to take us to the vet. She's napping right now finally, poor baby has barely slept at all :( I really hope it's nothing serious. Right now we're asking friends if they have any spare money to give us encase it's serious and the medicine costs a lot. Let's just pray that everything will be okay :( |
If you cant afford to help this baby, please call a yorkie rescue immediately and turn her over so she can get proper medical attention. If you trully care for this dog you will |
Right now I'm hoping you are at the vet's office w your little one getting the treatment needed. Are your parents (father) not able to pay for this pup's medical care that you are asking your friends for $? Hoping everything is well w your pup this am. |
Hope your baby is ok. Will the vet accept a payment plan and would your father be willing to make payments? |
Any updates on your baby? |
Please update when you are able to. Not to pry,but this sounds like a young girl that doesnt have the $ herself to care for this little baby. She is obviously concerned enough to research and for that I give big KUDOS, but I still have to ask - did the family know that once you get a pup they are responsible for it medically ? |
This story is breaking my heart. Please upadte when you can. |
Please Update. We are all very worried & Praying that your baby is ok. |
very curious what happened at the vet.................... |
...not posting... |
Hey everyone, Lucy is doing much better right now :) They said she had too much Bactria in her and they gave her a few shots to help her They also gave us a pill bottle with Metronidazole 250Mg* She has to take 1/4 pill every 12 hours to help with her diarrhea, they also gave her a shot to stop her from vomiting. My friend's mom helped me pay for the bill since Lucy was their dog before me but when they moved their landlord wouldn't allow dogs so they gave her to me. The doctor said it could be Parvo but Lucy was too perky for Parvo but since we don't know if she got ever got her Parvo shot it could be that, we're praying it isn't. For the last couple of days I've been giving her rice and chicken like the doctor said and I'm slowly giving her the dog food again. I'm a little worried because next week we're heading out of town to visit family for Thanksgiving and we have to leave her here, we're leaving her with my friend's mom since my friend is coming with us. This will be the longest me and Lucy have ever been apart and I'm a little scared to leave her even though I know she'll be in good hands. Well I hope everything is well with you guys and your pups Sincerely, Mariah |
Thank You for the update. I'm glad to hear that you got her to the vet & that she's feeling better. The chicken & rice is good. Has she ever had a Parvo vaccination ? If yes then she should be ok. Even if she were to get Parvo, if she was ever vaccinated for it then she should be able to fight it with treatment from your vet. |
Could be Parvo but too perky? Parvo is tested for in a fecal sample. Metronidazole is used to treat Giardia in dogs-yes bacteria & more but... Metronidazole has also been known to be toxic for small dogs, so please read the links and know what to watch for. I'm no expert but I hope someone more informed that I will post here with their experience. Metronidazole for Dogs ? Is It Safe To Use? Metronidazole for Veterinary Use |
I also live in Georgia and would be happy to be a back up to watch her while your gone, please PM me and I will give you my phone number and i would love to see a picture of her.:aimeeyork |
Metronidazole is a broad spectrum antibiotic, so I would think that the diagnoses is leaning toward bacterial infection and not a virus. I also know at her dosage it should help clear up any funk in her system. I wouldn't want to discredit a veterinarians dx, however, the whole "too perky for parvo" seems a bit unprofessional especially if it turns out to be parvo. That's just my opinion, but im sure it was said in passing to help ease your worries. Glad to hear she is getting the treatment she needs, and i'll keep her in my thoughts. Hope she makes a full recovery :) |
Good job for getting your baby in and taking such good care of her. Hopefully she recovers fully soon. Do what the vet has said and if things change for the worse, call them. |
